Isabel FARMER Obituary

FARMER, Isabel Jean

February 16, 1923 - June 3, 2022

Isabel Farmer passed away peacefully in her sleep at Glenwarren Lodge, Victoria, BC, on Friday, June 3, 2022. Isabel was predeceased by her husband Bern, siblings Gordon and Christine Young, and parents John and Jane Young.

Isabel is survived by her son Robert Farmer (Tia), daughter Barbara Townson (Ron), her 5 grandchildren Carson (Amanda), Devon (Kelly), Mackenzie (Marc), Reid (Kea), Melanie, and her beloved great grandchildren, Ophelia, Sidney, and Victoria.

Isabel was born in Magrath, AB on February 16, 1923. The family later moved to Lethbridge, AB where Isabel met her sweetheart, Bernard Farmer. Isabel and Bern were married in August 1948, and soon moved to Victoria, BC to raise their family.

Isabel and Bern lived in their Gordon Head home for many years, and later moved to a condo at the Cumberland. Isabel made many lovely friends there, and the weekly card games and Friday morning coffees quickly became a favourite.

Isabel was a loving Granny and Gigi, and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was fortunate to have many visits, in person and via telephone, with all of them recently, and we are grateful to them for their thoughtfulness and love.

Isabel had a special place in her heart for all of her nieces and nephews, and we would like to thank everyone for their kindness and friendship over the years, especially her niece, Colleen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Glenwarren Lodge for their kindness, patience, and attentive care that they provided Mom during her stay.

A celebration of life tea will be held at a later date.

Our sincere condolences to all the family. Isabel was a treasured family friend. My parents spent many, many happy hours with Isabel and Bern and valued their friendship so highly. I am so grateful to have known her!

I have such fond memories of Isabel (and Bernie) from their friendship with my parents.
Isabel was so very kind and welcoming. She was a delightful lady. Another one of the Gordon Head treasures who helped make our childhood a safe and happy one.

I have many fond memories of the wonderful smell and taste of Isabel's homemade cookies and how tolerant she was of Barb and I rollerskating in her basement along with our sleepovers. And my cat Ming regularly meowing at her kitchen door for her cat Smokey to come out so they could go out prowling. She always warmly welcomed the neighbourhood kids into her home. My condolences to Barb, Bob and their families.
