Annette, I am so very sorry for your loss. From reading these stories from Ivan's friends and remembering some of your stories, it is evident that he was a remarkable man who touched many lives. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts.

Ivan was such an amazing person. He was full of joy and a zest for life. He always has a twinkle in his eye and a joke to follow it up. We shared a love of jazz and food. He taught me to wear a gas mask while grating horseradish. He will be greatly missed. This is a great loss for his family and the community. I am honoured to have been his RMT for 9 years.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Ivan's passing. Ivan provided me with first rate advice as my A/JAG while I was the CO. I truly appreciated his wisdom, candor and humour. I could always count on him and no one could have asked for a better colleague.

I enjoyed working with Ivan at Horne Coupar some years ago. He was smart, funny, and wicked talented on the piano! His contribution to our after hours gatherings was immense. Condolences to Annette and all of his family and friends

I keep thinking about Ivan, his family, and his amazing musical talents, his good heart, and his unwavering commitment to service. He was a wonderful colleague, but I got to know him best through Taekwondo and playing music together. He often shared encouraging books, like Bruce Lee´s writings, and inspired me with his dedication to mastering everything he pursued. Ivan was a dear friend to both me and my spouse, Gareth, and was close to many of our mutual friends from work, music, Taekwondo, and the military. I´ll always remember his humble and multi-disciplinary example, and how he shepherded Emily and Ava into becoming strong black belts. He will be sorely missed in all the different worlds he touched. Our deepest condolences go out to Annette, Emily, and Ava during this difficult time.

My heartfelt condolences go out to Annette and her children and all of Ivan's family and friends. Truly heartbreaking to hear the sad news of his early passing. From September 1991 to July 1996 we played music together and lived life together. The greatest of people and one of the finest musicians I've ever had the pleasure to work with, but more than anything I will remember Ivan's laughter. Humor and Ivan are synonymous. Rest in peace Brother... David Juteau

Ivan was a member of the Wills and Trusts section of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association when I was chair. He was a great contributor especially at our year end party where replayed the piano with great expertise. I lost track of Ivan after he went to the government. I have fond memories of him. His very early demise was a shock. My condolences to his family.

I'm very sad to hear of Ivan's passing. Far too soon. Many times, I enjoyed Ivan's music as he played the piano in the Wardroom in HMCS Malahat. The best was when he played something simple enough for me to join in song or on the guitar. He was a beam of light, a big contributor to morale, and one of the best officers I've had the privilege of knowing. Annette, my thoughts are with you and the girls.

Sincerest condolences to family and friends. First met Ivan as 2Lt's in the Reserves when I worked as a civilian in the AJAG's office. I recall our discussions surround him joining the Branch and enjoyed his success over the years. It was nice to see him occassionally in the office but nothing compared to watching him play music. So sorry for your loss.

Annette, Jonathan and I are so sorry for the loss you and the girls are experiencing- what a tremendous, generous, and exceptional human Ivan was. I was remembering some of the experiences we shared with Ivan and your family both at taekwondo and in your loving home this past week, and he always had a way of making others around him feel welcome and a part of whatever was happening. He was and always will be a trusted board holder/musical giant in my mind, with a wicked back kick (and maybe some tight hamstrings )

What can I say, utterly shocked at this news, I am so glad I made it out to raise a glass with you last time you made it to Ottawa. Our hearts are with your family, and we will keep you close through your music.
