I am very late in adding this message. Jack and I served together in the not very happy ship Onondaga. Jack was one of the good guys. My memories of that period are not good but my memories of Jack and Elsie are. We had some good times in Chatham and some really good parties. Elsie. I hope all will go well for you. I have been there and you will need all your strength to go on. My sincere condolences to you.

I first met Jack when I was posted to HMCS Chignecto in late 1970 or early 1971. At the time, Chignecto was tasked with giving MARS students their first sea phase training. I remember one day, the Admiral decided he was going to go out with us to see the training first-hand. It was one of those days off Victoria, where those round-bottomed sweepers rolled a lot. Jack, I and the Chief Engineer were the only ones who weren't seasick. I guess the training outcome that day was watching an Admiral heave just like all the new sailors. After a while, the Admiral suggested we return to Esquimalt, as we were not achieving much. Jack agreed, and only used a few choice adjectives when the Admiral left the Bridge (which was an open Bridge if you don't remember). I learned a lot from Jack and the crew of Chignecto. Safe passage Jack to the next port. My sympathies go out to the family.

Our thoughts are with Jacks family. I fondly remember working with Jack in his tenure as Marine Superintendent with QHM. It was a tumultuous time and his sense of humour was much apreciated.
