I just came upon this. My mother, Grace George, who played at the restaurant for years, had nothing but the utmost respect for Mr. Ellett. So good to see he lived a long, happy life. I´m sure his joie de vivre is missed. Mum had wonderful stories and memories from Ellett´s.

My father Jim Barrie was a good friend of Jack. Dad worked at city hall and often had coffee at Jack’s restaurant in the MacLaren hotel or the other up Princess. We lived in Riverview and often went to Jack’s other restaurant at Baltimore and Osborne. We love to flip the music cards and play the jutebox. I know dad really respected Jack and enjoyed talking with him. I was just talking to my brother in law about Jack. He worked in the Scotiabank in the MacLeran. Very glad to see Jack had such a long life. It might have been nice to meet after we moved to Nanaimo.

Jack and Mollie were my "around-the-corner" neighbours in Ardmore, where I lived for 22 years. We moved from Winnipeg to North Saanich in 1979. In the late eighties, Jack used to pick-up our family dog as he passed our house on his daily walk. Our family was at work and school through the day, so Jack and the dog had a mutually beneficial relationship. Jack was a cheerful and energetic gentleman. The family will have many memories as they recall Jack's very long life.

Jack and Mollie were friends of our family, even before the 4 of us were born in the 50’s. Sharing a photo below taken at the Aqua Terra Club on Crescent Drive in Winnipeg...Mollie and Jack on the left and our parents Harvey and Hazel Paton on the right. Looks like a great night out, love the bottles under the table! We lived in Fort Rouge in the 50’s, and going out for dinner was a big deal. Ellett’s was just a few blocks away...we remember Jack coming to the table and making a fuss over 4 little girls! Barry, Jane, Joanne and families, we’re thinking of you as you celebrate a truly wonderful life, lived to the fullest. Enjoy the good memories...Barbara, Carla, Jan and Joy Paton.

I met Jack when my Mother moved into Glenwarren Lodge. My Mother and I sat with him during a music event shortly after she moved in. We didn't talk much because we were enjoying the music, but Jack did say to me "I'm 100 years old". I was surprised and told him so as he looked at least 20 years younger. Later I asked one of the staff "Is Jack really 100 years old?" They responded with "No... he's 101".
Countless times I ran into Jack on my way in, he would be doing his daily laps around the patio and always had a wonderful smile and "Hello" for me.
Now Jack is doing his laps on the clouds.

It was a pleasure, Jack... Leslee Hill
