James Bradshaw Obituary

BRADSHAW, James William (Jay)
June 26, 1935 - January 10, 2025
James W. Bradshaw passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, in Victoria, British Columbia at Saanich Peninsula Palliative Care Unit. He was in his 90th year. He was born June 26, 1935, in Toronto, son of James and Adelaide Bradshaw. Jay is survived by his loving family - his wife of over 40 years, Jean Ellen (Jinnie) (nee Jory), his children Tracey Bourgon (Luc) and Gregory Bradshaw, his grandchildren Nat, Ben (Mia Clarkson), Charlotte Bourgon, James and Alex Bradshaw and their mother Kati. His sister, Barbara Leach (Bill - predeceased) passed away within a few weeks of Jay's death.
Jay was a kind and generous gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour. He was extremely well read, always eager to debate political and economic conditions and explore the human condition. He attended Upper Canada College where he made friends for life including Elliot Gardiner. After attending the University of Western Ontario, he joined the family textile business A. Bradshaw and Sons (est. 1882). Following this, he engaged with the Templeton Group at Dominion Securities and over time became a director of Templeton funds.
Jay was committed to volunteering and sharing personal gifts through working with a variety of organizations including The Investments Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC), the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre and the Ontario Division of the Canadian Paraplegic Association. Jay was also a member of the Toronto Board of Trade, Caledon Ski Club, The Toronto Hunt Golf Club and the Lyford Cay Club. He believed one of his most significant contributions was as the primary background supporter of this wife, the Co-founder of Hope Air.
In 1978, at the Granite Club, Jay met Jinnie, his loving and steadfast partner. They were devoted to each other and shared meaningful years of travel, creating warm and welcoming homes and loving their English Setters. In retirement, following their move to Victoria, BC, Jay joined the Uplands Probus Club and the Executive Resource Group.
The family sincerely thanks the Palliative Care staff at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their excellent care. Thanks are also extended to his medical team including his GP Dr. Hartford, Cindy, Dr. C. Stagant and Dr. A Yee whose exceptional care maximized his quality of life. Special thanks to his personal care worker Rey Ceazar Abad whose devotion and care for Jay maximized his quality of life.
