James Camplin Obituary

CAMPLIN, James
June 4, 1933 - September 17, 2024
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Scott Camplin. Always vibrant and appearing and acting much younger than his age, Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep at age 91 in Royal Jubilee Hospital after a brief illness. Jim was known for his intelligence, never-ending curiosity, wry humour and quick wit, and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to truly know him. Jim was a true renaissance man in every sense of the word, having lived all over Canada, as well as in England and Greece, spending the longest period in Nelson, BC and eventually settling in Victoria 13 years ago. He was multi-talented, having a myriad of interesting careers and hobbies that reflected his curiosity and love of variety, and was also an accomplished painter and author, having written a book about his one man cycling odyssey across Europe. Jim had a great sense of style and an approach to life that was reflected in one of his favourite quotes by 16th century poet George Herbert, "Living well is the best revenge." Love and acceptance came late in life to Jim when he finally met and married the person he had been looking for all his life, the two of them spending 20 happy and fun-filled years together. Jim is survived by his loving husband and soulmate Rob Roy, and his nephew Brian Marshall (Bonni).
