James Downard Obituary


DOWNARD, James Henry (Harry) Peacefully, in his 97th year with grandson Shawn Cuthbert at his side. Pre-deceased by his wife Evlyn, sister Alyce Hawes, and brother Victor Downard. He is survived by son Jay (Patricia), daughter Donna-Rae Cuthbert, grandchildren Cathy Downard Parmer, Shawn Cuthbert, Brad Cuthbert, Brian Downard, Paul Downard, Greg Cuthbert, and greatgrandchildren, Kara, Luke and Abby. A long time principal and educator with the Greater Victoria School Board, he participated in many community activities, including 49 1/2 years with the Britannia Masonic Lodge. In his final years, he was blessed with the friendship and assistance of Gordon Birtwistle, Bob Stewart and Ruth Bahsler. The family and friends are very appreciative of the excellent care and attention given him by the staff of St. Marthas' House. "The stag at eve had drunk his fill where danced the moon on Monans Rill " A celebration of his life will take place at the Gorge Vale Golf Club on Wednesday, 11th May, 2005 at 2 PM. 74840

I have very fond memories of a wonderful Principal at Gordon Head Junior High. He was a very strick Principal but had a sense of humour I will always remember. He was proud of his school and his students. Like parents, you appreciate the things he taught us later on in life. Be at peace.
