JAMES GRIEVE Obituary

After a long health struggle, Jim went to spirit on August 6, 2023. Jim was a very much larger than life person. He was a gifted guitarist, artist, and a brilliant home designer and proprietor of James Grieve design. Some of his home designs are among the most beautiful in the CRD. Anyone who knew Jim knows his brilliant eccentricities and he was liked and admired by many. He leaves behind his children Devon Grieve (Jonah) and Ceilidh Clausen (Rolf) his wee grandson Finn, cousins Rosamund Blaikie, Mike Grieve, Sharron Emerson, lifelong friend and special angel Helga Tucker, brother-in-law Russ Godfrey (Irene) and loving nephews Nick (Sarah) and Ben (Amy) and many friends. Jim loved dogs. All dogs. There is no service but those who loved and cared about Jim are encouraged to donate to the Victoria Humane Society.

Just found out TODAY that he died. We´ve been trying to call him for a LONG time.
If Devon or Ceileidh could call or contact me, I would be so grateful. The last time we spoke, I think he was in the hospital.
Thanks.

We had the good fortune to work with Jim for over three decades and did many fabulous and unique projects together. I regard him as my primary mentor and consider him a huge factor in my success as a designer. We live in a home that he helped us design... he lovingly referred to it as "the jewel box" and, everywhere we look, his talent is evident.

Jim was also a wordsmith and his command of the English language was amazing. There weren´t many topics to stump him... he possessed a vast knowledge about many things.

Now that he is in Heaven, I suspect it will soon be undergoing a major renovation. He was definitely an original. He will be missed, both personally and within the design community. Anyone reading this who lives in one of his creations will understand the enormity of his skill set and the void he left behind from his passing.

Our heartfelt condolences to those he left behind who cared about him as much as we did.

Jim designed two of our homes and his kind, caring approach always with a sense of humor made things easy.
Jim was a brilliant designer, whose arches, traditional trim and artistic talent transformed the mundane into timeless, beautiful living spaces.
We think of him often as we enjoy living in one of his creations with many fond memories of Jim as a person.
Rest in peace Jim.
