James ISMAN Obituary

ISMAN, James Allan James Isman, 66, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2014 with family by his side. Jim was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 26, 1947, second child to the late Bernard and Louise Isman (deceased), and brother to Van Isman and Carol Reiter. Jim graduated from Central High in Regina, Saskatchewan and attended the University of Winnipeg, Faculty of Architecture. He married his wife Barbara in 1981 and together they raised Barbara's son Adam Goertz and their daughter Jessica Isman. Jim was happy when Adam's wife Laura and Jess' partner Alex became part of the family but it was his greatest joy to be "Zaida Jim" to grandchildren Hailey and Aiden. Jim owned Hillside Printing Company in Victoria with his wife Barbara. Previous to coming to Victoria, Jim was involved in several businesses, including Winnipeg-based The Leather Factory of Canada and Windermere Enterprises, a real estate redevelopment company he ran in North Vancouver, and Isman Hide and Leather in Regina, Saskatchewan. While he took great pride in the businesses he built, he was best known a caring man who could be counted on to support a good cause. From serving as a BBYO Counsellor in the 1970's to becoming a North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce Board Member in 2010, and most recently donor many Victoria charitable organizations through Hillside, Jim felt a great responsibility to give back to the communities in which he lived and worked. Jim was interned in the Jewish Cemetery on Tuesday February 4th in the presence of friends, family and co-workers. Although he will be mourned deeply, he will always be remembered with a smile for his off-beat sense of humour and with true love for his kind and gentle nature. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society. https://2621.thankyou4caring.org/ http://convio.cancer.ca/site/PageServer? pagename=donations_can_home

Jim was a great AZA advisor. Survived a 40 hour bus trip with us to District Convention in Wisconsin... and kept us in good spirits all the way. Heartfelt condolences to the Isman family.
