James M Macadam died suddenly at his home in Mission in December. He was 52 years old.
James embraced a zest for life. Endlessly creative, James spent time each day writing comedy and personal development pieces. His humour, warmth, and curiosity lifted those around him, and he always had a joke or encouraging word to share. James strove to support others in their lives and their learning, as a husband, friend, brother, uncle, colleague, and teacher.
Born and raised in Victoria, James attended Camosun College and the University of Victoria. He completed his MA in Economics at SFU, and went to work in small business development. For nearly two decades, James taught at BCIT, joining the permanent faculty in the School of Business. Thousands of students from many different programs took courses in business, management, statistics, and economics from James. He especially loved mentoring students as they navigated their way into the workforce.
James and his wife filled their home with adopted old dogs who they loved taking on adventures. James also enjoyed working out, watching stand-up comedy, reading comic books, and drinking tea, making smoothies, listening to audio books, and traveling around BC and Washington.
James leaves behind his wife, Michelle Rhodes; his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Amber Macadam of Duncan, and their children Josh, Bethany (Matt), and Isaiah; his brother and sister-in-law Bob and Gail Macadam of Ft. Langley, and their children Sarah (Matthew), Ben, Jonathan (Thalissa), Jeremiah (Jay), Abigail, Lizzie, and Zach; and his aunt Coral Carter, aunt Wanda (Ken), and uncle Jim Winters. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and June Macadam.
A celebration in the lower mainland was held in February. A celebration of life for family and friends is planned for March 19, 2023, in Duncan. Condolences can be left and RSVP information found on the
