Janet McGregor Obituary

McGREGOR, Janet E. October 15, 1947 - June 21, 2022 Janet passed away peacefully at home with her husband Fred sitting beside her. Loving friends were also present to say their goodbyes. Born in Kingston, Ontario she was raised in Saskatchewan. In her early childhood she spent many fun hours with her friends from the Pony Club in Saskatoon and later with her high school girl friends who became lifelong friends. Her relationship with the Pony Club carried on into her teen years and beyond with many adventurous events and reunions attended. Her career began in Saskatchewan with the Provincial Government working in various high-level positions. In 1988 she and Fred moved to Victoria where she was hired by the Ministry of Health in the Medical Services Plan. From there she rose in the ranks as a senior executive becoming an ADM. When she retired in 2002 she carried on with her passions full time. She golfed with her many friends and husband at the Royal Colwood Golf Club. Janet gave back to the club as a board member and committee participant. She painted with her artist friends on a weekly basis at the Stanley St studio. Her paintings became exceptionally good as she explored various subjects and painting techniques. Once a month book club was held with tasty treats and healthy discussions about the stories or issues as told by the books. Twice a week she played bridge either at the golf club or online. In between all of this, caring hours were spent in her vegetable garden and rockery garden nurturing the plants and flowers. She also loved to cook gourmet meals with monthly get togethers with two couples and invited guests. Janet and Fred had many travel adventures together. They spent 12 winters in Arizona where she continued her passions and weekly conversations with all her good friends back home. The people they met in Arizona, both Canadian and American, on the golf course and the community they lived in became good friends. They shared many wonderful activities, dinners and social events with these friends. Janet was a thoughtful and compassionate person who cared deeply about the well being of her family, friends and colleagues. As a highly respected professional she was also a role model for young women providing advice and support in furthering their careers. Janet is survived by her husband of 40 years Fred, her brothers Alex (Peggy), Ian, Bob (Leanne), her sister-in-law Alisa, her brother-in-law Dick, her sister-in-law Jill (Len) and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Elizabeth, father Don, brother Jim and sister-in-law Donna. Janet gave me, her husband, the best 40 years of my life and I will miss her deeply. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please donate to the ALS Society of BC.

Fred-I am so sorry to read about Janet-you were a great team and I know you supported her through this journey.
Janet and I worked together for many years in Saskatchewan Government- over these years Janet was a Colleague, my Boss and my Friend. Even when you folks moved away, she kept in touch and we had visits in Regina and Arizona. I so appreciated her commitment to maintain contact--even in April encouraging me to take up painting--saying it's like golf--you take lessons and it all comes naturally. It did to Janet- I loved seeing her paintings.
A smart, determined, kind and gentle soul whose smile and laugh I will never forget---my life was enriched by her.

My deepest condolences to Fred and to Janet's family.
I worked for and with Janet for approximately 15 years at the Medical Services Plan and Ministry of Health. She was wonderful to work with and became a mentor to me. After we worked together and were doing different things I often went to Janet for advice. She always made time for me, was a very good listener and provided very thoughtful ideas and advice to me. We became friends outside of work and enjoyed dinner parties at Janet and Fred's place and golf with them at Royal Colwood. One year when I was down in Phoenix for Spring Training, Janet invited my son and I out to golf with them at their course in Scottsdale. She was a wonderful host and never made fun of my terrible golf game!
I had just reconnected with Janet prior to her passing. I am going to miss her and feel so lucky to have known her.

We met Janet and Fred over 15 years ago when we became next door neighbors in Arizona. What great neighbors they were and we had many great meals, parties, golf outings, and travel with them. We watched Janet's artistic talent grow
and am so proud of the painting she did for us that we proudly display in our home. She was kind, funny yet serious, and such a valued friend. We will miss her but have very fond memories to keep her in our hearts and minds.

I am so very sorry for Janet's passing. I met her very soon after she started work at MSP. She kept most of our conversations on a business level, but once in a while she would tell a very funny personal story. You couldn't help but like her, and I did.

Rest well, Janet, you will be missed.

Cathie, third floor at old MSP.

I knew Janet from Saskatoon and Nutana Collegiate.
My Grandfather owned a harness shop and was a sponsor of the Pony Club, so I watched her ride on many occasions. Always a friendly, warm and very nice
person. My sincere sympathy to her husband and family.
