Janet Strickland Obituary

STRICKLAND, Janet Mary
(née Blundell)
October 13, 1929 - October 2, 2025
With full hearts and deep sadness, our family announces the peaceful passing of Janet Mary Strickland, who left this world quietly at home, surrounded by loved ones, just shy of her 96th birthday.
Born in Hitchin, England, to Helena Boutwood and Hubert Blundell, Janet spent her early years in the United Kingdom before immigrating to Canada in 1974 with her beloved husband Gerald and their two sons. Janet and Gerald were married in 1953, following his return from the Korean War, and shared 65 devoted years together, a union filled with love and unwavering support.
A gifted artist from a young age, Janet pursued her passion for painting at the Royal Academy of Art in London and later at the Bank Street Art College in Victoria. Janet was a proud member of the Exchanges Collective Gallery for 25 years where she cultivated many lifelong friends with fellow artists. Her work was celebrated in numerous solo exhibitions. Among her many accomplishments, she was honored with first prize at the Sooke Fine Arts Show in 1996.
Janet made her home in Oak Bay for over five decades, where she cultivated a life rich in family, friendship, creativity, and a love of nature. Her days were filled with painting, gardening, the companionship of dogs, and the joy of hosting loved ones. She and Gerald shared a love of travel, exploring the vast beauty of North America together and cherishing the people and places they encountered.
Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She lived with grace and dignity, and her passing reflected the same quiet strength that defined her life.
She is lovingly remembered by her sister Helen, sons George and William, daughter-in-law Eve, cherished granddaughters Lily and Willow, and many dear friends and extended family.
Janet's legacy lives in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will continue to inspire and comfort us.
