Jason Childs Obituary

On December 3, 2022, our beloved Jason Benjamin Childs' body stopped holding his giant and gentle soul. He died in a place he adored and leaves behind the love of his life, Hillary, and their two children - Emma and Walker. Born August 24, 1972, Jason is known for his kindness, his generosity, his laughter, sense of adventure, and the most wonderful naughty twinkle in his eye.
As a lifelong adventurer - Jason lived every day of his life to the fullest. Anyone who knew Jason knew he did things his own way, that he could not be influenced by anyone or anything and that he strongly believed it was better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
Jason spent the better part of the past 30 years working in dryland sorts on the Central Coast and Vancouver Island. He started his career in Doc Creek - a camp he continued to hold near to his heart. After working with Otter Point Timber, Western Forest Products and Lemare Lake Logging, and other non-logging jobs, Jason most recently worked on the dryland sort in Jordan River for Queesto Community Forest - a job he loved as he was close to home and worked with a crew that he considered family. He was a talented machine operator and took so much pride in his work.
He was a true and loyal companion to those lucky enough to be able to consider him a friend. He was a son who so loved his parents, Janice Carter and Larry, and would move heaven and earth for family when it was within his power.
Jason is also survived by his immediate family - niece Cassidy, nephew Robbie Bligh, brother Vince Bligh, sister Stacey Bligh - his extended family as well as countless friends. He is predeceased by his brother Toby and stepmom Marilyn.
The outpouring of love and support our family has experienced has been a testament to lives Jason touched. The family would like to thank his friends who were instrumental in his search and recovery as well at JDF SAR and the Sooke RCMP.
Although no one can bring Jason back, we can all live as he did - with a smile, a sense of adventure, a strong work ethic and loving kindness. Please giggle inappropriately, be unafraid to face difficulty in your path, work hard, and love and take care of those who need you in order to carry him with us and model the man he was to his children.
Go for a hike. Look at the trees. Make a crude joke. Help someone get firewood. Or cuddle a cow.
A celebration of Jason's life will be held on Saturday January 7, 2023 at 1pm at the Sooke Community Hall.

My sincerest condolences. I am grateful I was able to catch up with Jason a few years ago at Uncle Ray's garage bday party. I babysat them as a teenager and I am so sorry, gone too soon. I will think of him when I am out on the trail..

Graham and I are devastated to hear the news of Jay´s passing. We have so many wonderful memories of adventures and good times spent with Jason. He was a beautiful soul and one of the kindest people I knew. Always looked at the bright side and made me smile. Our love goes out to Hillary, his kids, and the rest of his family, friends and coworkers who knew and loved him.

To Hillary and family,we first met Jason at our neighbor Bill's place when Jason was clearing land for Bill. From the day we met him it was as if you knew him for a long time. Such a genuine guy. He helped us put our hay up this past summer as he had phoned Bill as we were just leaving the field and offered to give us a hand. We will never forget his generosity and the great laughs we had with him. He was one of a kind, till we meet again. Rest in peace our friend. Julie and Rick
