Jean MITCHELL Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Wife, Mum, Gran and friend.
Her courage during this decade long ordeal with Myeloma is a credit to her character, strength and resolve. She never complained and always made the most of every moment she shared with family and friends. True to her British heritage, she just soldiered on with a stiff upper lip, following in the footsteps of Elsie, her very caring, but strong and determined mother.
Jean was born in Keighley, England. After immigrating to Canada with her mother, she finished high school in Toronto. There she met and married her first husband, Richard Stringer. She took immense pride and joy in raising their two sons. She later worked as a secretary for the Ministry of Forests in Victoria. It was here that she met and married Ken, with whom she has enjoyed the past 25 years.
Jean's passion for flowers and gardening is evident in and outside of her home where something is always bursting with colour and life. She got so much joy from planning another garden bed or learning about a new plant. Her love for needlepoint adorns every room in her house and many rooms in the homes of her friends and loved ones. Every birthday or other special occasion was lifted to new heights by her specially crafted needlepoint cards to mark the day. Jean loved her pets, especially her cats, who supervised all her activities at home. She also knitted many unique dolls which she joyfully donated to charities to help them raise money for the Saanich Peninsula Hospital.
Jean will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by Ken, her children, Robin Stringer (Eleanor), Paul Stringer, Ian Mitchell (Kaaren), Eric Sandberg (Johanna) and her grandchildren Christopher and Sarah Stringer and Skylar and Max Mitchell. Many relatives, extended family and friends, here and in England will miss her visits and phone calls.
Jean had a great sense of humour, a warm smile and a gleeful laugh that once filled the room and now lives on in our hearts.
In early June, we plan to host a Celebration of Jean's life in the home and garden she loved.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your own favourite charity with warm thoughts about Jean.

I'm so sad to hear of Jean's passing. I will remember how, working with Research Branch, she always had my back and saved my bacon so many times. I will miss her friendly, warm demeanor, bright smile and clever (sometimes wicked) sense of humour.

My sincerest, heartfelt condolences to Ken and family.
