Joan Gold Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife and mother, Joan, who died peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 75.
Born in Winnipeg, Joan was a joyful person and had an amazing life. She grew up in Victoria, then went on to VGH to become a Registered Nurse. There she met her husband, Jeff. Together they lived in Port Hardy, San Francisco and settled in North Vancouver.
Joan is lovingly remembered by husband Jeff; sons, Ross (Ashleigh), Ryan (Tia), daughter, Holly (Derek); sisters Judy (Glenn), Sally (Scott), Susan; and adored grandchildren Benjamin, Zoe, Daniel, Greyson, Jayne, Josephine, Mela, as well as her many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by sister Kathy.
Joan loved being a nurse, and enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening and baking, and all of her friends from those pursuits. A celebration of life for friends and family will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Joan's name, to the Alzheimer's Society of B.C., Paul's Club (www.paulsclub.ca), or to the Capilano Community Services Society – Senior's Hub.

It was an absolute pleasure-and more fun than words can express-to have spent part of the last 18 months with Joan at Paul´s Club. She lit up the room every time she walked in, with her laughter, her radiant smile, and her endless compassion for every member of the club. Joan often referred to herself as a "hooligan," always with a twinkle in her eye, and that playful spirit made her truly unforgettable. We feel so lucky to have known her, and her memory will stay with us forever. As a fellow nurse, I deeply regret never having had the chance to work alongside her-she must have been extraordinary in every setting.

Joan and I and played in the same bridge club for 20 + years. She was also my quilting mentor, and we enjoyed many hours together quilting in each other´s homes and on retreats. She lived her life with such enthusiasm and joy, and was kind, generous and caring. Everyone who knew her will remember her laughter. She brought liveliness to every gathering. Many condolences to Jeff, Ross, Ryan, Holly, and the rest of her family.

So sorry to to hear that Joan has passed away. I was a classmate of Joan's and lived two doors down from her in the VGH residence. If I close my eyes, I can hear her wonderful laughter floating down the hallway to my room. Joan was a wonderful nurse - so kind, gentle, and competent. My deepest sympathy to her family and all her friends.

I too was a classmate of Joan´s at VGH and I have many fond memories of working with her. She had an infectious laugh and twinkling mischievous eyes that often made me laugh which could really brighten the day. She was a great nurse and patients adored her. Joan will be missed by so many.
My deepest sympathy to all Joan´s family and friends.

I too was a nursing classmate of Joan. We planned to get an apartment together when we graduated but proposals and wedding plans got in the way
Her sense of humour and her mischievous manner was still evident when I visited her about 18 months ago. She helped me with a quilting problem and we went for a walk.
Unfortunately family health issues kept me from getting another visit in.

Joan became a great friend to me when my family moved to Victoria from Winnipeg. In Junior High school we were classmates, we were on the same curling team (Joan was the skip) and we shared many adventures. Joan had a wonderful "lightness" about her and a positive outlook that made our days brighter. My sincere condolences to her family at this difficult time.

I was one of the volunteers with MLGB at Lions Gate Community Centre. I only knew her for a very short time, but she brought a lot of joy to the program. She will be missed so much

It is with heavy heart that we share with you the sorrow of losing a lifelong partner, a mother and for us a precious human being that we have known only for a short time. Please accept our condolences. Joan's infectious laughter and the warmth that radiated from her being will be greatly missed. In addition George will greatly miss his "bus" companion.

Condolences to Joan´s family and friends. I´m a VGH classmate from the crazy 70´s. You gotta know: to do a rotation with or take an outing with Joan was a complete riot. On a serious note Joan could alway see the brighter side and shared her deep compassion with everyone she dealt with. Her patients loved her for that too.

I´m another friend from school days...Willows Elementary and then Oak Bay Junior and Senior High School. Although we lost touch many years ago, I just wanted to say to family that Joan was one of the nicest and kindest friends from my school days. She had the loveliest smile and she just seemed to carry joy in her young soul. We took dance classes together during our elementary school years and we thought we were very cool when we wore our matching spring dance festival dresses to school for a photo day...I think in grade 5. Remembering Joan with a smile and a warm heart. Sincere condolences to Joan´s family.

Joan and I were friends in high school. One summer, while college students, we took a memorable Greyhound trip to Berkeley/San Francisco, years before she and Jeff had met and married. Although we lost touch, the news of her passing has touched me deeply. My heart goes out to all her family, her legacy. I wish them all strength during this difficult time.
