John Cubbage Obituary

CUBBAGE, Dr. John (Jack) Stanley
March 11, 1935 - January 27, 2024
John was born on March 11, 1935 in Regina, Saskatchewan and died peacefully on January 27, 2024 in Victoria, BC. John was predeceased by his wife, Iris Cubbage (nee Young) and his brother Larry.
John leaves behind his children Harry (Sharon), Colleen, John (Sat) Cubb, Jerry and Juanita (Barry) Lohr; his grandkids, Josh, Sarah (Dylan) Hunt-Scott, Meghan, Joanne (Peter) Sippola, Alec (Kennedy) Lohr, Lucia, Titus and Mercedes Cubb; and his great- grandson Henry Hunt-Scott.
After John graduated from Medical School in 1959 he went to England to do his internship. John and Iris went to England with one child and a year and a half later came back to Canada with three children.
With that many kids and living on an intern salary he was unable to afford the plane tickets so his older brother, Larry, bought his way home.
Besides John's career as a family doctor, one of his most enjoyable hobbies was that of being a pilot of Cessna air crafts. To obtain a pilots license you need to be 16 years old, but as John was only 15 years old when he got his license he had to lie about his age – and got away with it.

My condolences to the family. I did not know the rest of his family well, but met John through his second marriage to my husbands aunt Eileen. I did get to visit with them on Vancouver Island a few times. Jack, as we knew him, was such a kind generous person. I was fortunate to get to stay at their beautiful home and got to see places on Vancouver Island with them, I would never have been able to get to on my own. He was a very special person to me and I will always remember him with care and admiration. Aunt Eileen always spoke so warmly about him, and it also warms our hearts and gives us a chuckle when we speak of how Jack would fly his plane up to Kamloops so Eileen could visit with her sister Peggy, but, Eileen would drive up, because she was scared of flying in his little plane. He told us the hardest thing for him was when he could not longer fly his own plane anymore. Jack, I hope you are now back in your plane flying through the beautiful blue sky to all the places you still wanted to see. You will be missed. Linda & Peter Connolly
