John William de Zeeuw (Jack) passed away on November 25th at his residence at Amica in Victoria, BC. Born at Medora, Manitoba, on October 22, 1928, to Leonard and Martha de Zeeuw, who came to Canada from the Netherlands in 1926. Raised in S.W. Manitoba and attended two country schools as well as Napinka and Melita high schools. Graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture at the age of 20. Accredited member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada and Senior member of the International Right of Way Association. Employed by the CPR in real estate matters for 12 years (Regina, Brandon and Winnipeg) and 29 years with the Province of Manitoba (Land inspector, Crown Lands, Assistant Director and Director of Land Acquisition Branch and coordinator of rail lines disposal before retiring in 1990. Married Ruth Ellerman in Moose Jaw in 1955 and later divorced. Remarried in 1979 to Terezia (Terry) Matus. Lived in Winnipeg for nearly 50 years, off and on, before moving to Victoria in 2002. Survived by his wife; Terry, daughter; Debra Rickaby (Brian) and son; Daniel all living in Abbotsford. Niece; Connie Brownell (Marc) and their daughter; Genvieve. Stepdaughter; Klara Moore (Ken) of Winnipeg, Grandchildren; Adrienne Moore, Ken Moore, Robert Rickaby, Jennifer Rickaby. Predeceased by sister; Wyn, brother-in-law; Allan Brownell. Jack loved music of all kinds, was an avid reader, interested in photography, collecting classic Lincoln Cars and an enthusiastic steam train lover! Jack and Terry travelled frequently to various places in Canada and the U.S., also visiting the Netherlands and Hungary to explore their family's roots. He was of strong Christian convictions and active in many churches over the years, the latter being St. Andrew's Presbyterian in Victoria.

A Celebration of a life well-lived will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel - Victoria on Tuesday, December 16th at 11:00 am with a reception to follow where we can share fond memories of Jack. 1803 Quadra Street Victoria BC V8T 4B8.
