John Hagar Obituary

HAGAR, John "Stewart" Born April 26, 1931 in Victoria, British Columbia, passed away peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital on January 25, 2018. Stewart was predeceased by his parents Denis and Sheila Hagar and his first wife Julie Hagar. He is survived by their children; daughter Marsha Black, son Douglas and grandchildren Meghan and Spencer and daughter Laura (Richard) and grandchildren Gregory, Martina and Darryl. Stewart will be deeply missed by wife Loralee (nee Turgoose) of 26 years and her children Darcy Laing and Dani Metzmeier (David), and granddaughter Aleka Paiavlas. Born and raised in Victoria, Stewart worked as an investment advisor and was named a LIFE MEMBER of Junior Chamber International as the world's 1411 JCI Senator and a long-time member of the Vancouver Island Model Engineers (VIME). Stewart was one of the longest serving members of the Gyro Club of Victoria, having joined in 1964 and served the Club as President twice. Up until the last few years Stew and Loralee were active participants in Gyro activities. Stewart loved his gardens, growing orchids, and protecting his Koi pond from "that damn heron". His children have fond memories of the farm, camping, fishing, boating and more recently trying to beat him in a game of Rummikub. Stewart loved travelling and explored many countries, cultures and vineyards, and enjoyed lazy weeks in Hawaii watching the sun set with the other "wall-nuts". Thank you to the nurses on Four South at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Special thanks to Ronald Martinez whose steadfast and kind caregiving and friendship over the last three years helped tremendously. At Stewart's request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by the Alzheimer Society of BC with our thanks.

It was always my pleasure to see Stewart. He always had interesting stories, a fine sense of humour and he was very determined. Thinking of you, Loralee.

My first memory of my cousin was when I was a young girl spying
on a tall, blonde handsome young man pushing a swing at the cabin or Farm. On the swing was a beautiful girl who's name was Julie.
Later I babysat their children while bottle feeding a rambunctious baby raccoon found on the Foul Bay property. Then a birthday party wth pony rides. Always lots of exciting things going on.
Last saw him at my fathers funeral a few years ago and he was still handsome with that great voice.
My condolences to all who are grieving
Lorna (Hagar) Truscott
