John McPherson Obituary

MCPHERSON, John James (Jake) June 5, 1945 January 11, 2011 It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the sudden passing of Jake McPherson on the 11th January 2011. He leaves behind his wife Heather and daughter Kelly (Terry) and three grandchildren, Ashley, Corbin and Amelia. Jake was born in Winnipeg MB June 5th 1945 to James and Georgina McPherson. He is survived by three sisters Edna of Inwood MB, Donna of Richmond B.C. And Betty of Coquitlam B.C. Jake joined the Navy at an early age and served on many different ships. After a few years he decided to try a different occupation which was a driver for Pepsi Cola. It didnt take long for him to figure out that seeing the world was a lot better than delivering pop to little places like Yale and downtown" Spuzzum. Jake quickly rejoined the Navy. In 1971 he remustered to the Air Force, spending time with 407, 443 and 423 Squadrons and making lasting friendships on both coasts. After serving many years with these Squadrons he then was posted to Headquarters in Esquimalt as an Area Cadet Adviser for the Air Cadet Unit of B.C. With this position he travelled to all the Air Cadet Units in B.C. This was his last Military posting. Upon retirement he joined the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires and worked in Victoria until moving to Courtenay in 2004. He continued with the Corp until his passing. Around 1996 Jake and Heather discovered the joys of travel and cruised to many ports around the world. Jake enjoyed his home and spent many hours with its care. His walks with Myah ( favourite family pet ) were a daily part of his life. Jake was a wonderful man who made many friends and will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched. The outpouring of kindness has been overwhelming. Special thanks to Harvey and Jean Copeland, Marilyn Wickes, Linda Cluett and to Fred Mason for all his support. Memorial Poppy Service will be held in the upper hall of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160 in Comox B.C., Padre Neil Parker officiating. Service will be January 25th 1:00 P.M. Reception following. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Fund or Charity of your choice. 615002Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist on 1/16/11.

I am very sad to learn of your husband's death. It is never easy to lose a mate who has been with you through the years. May God give you peace of heart and mind and may you be comforted knowing so many of us at CA care about you and the pain you are suffering now.

Heather,
We are so saddened by your loss of your best friend and loving husband Jake.

I am fumbling for words, because I know that in my heart there is nothing I can do to ease your pain.
Reading what others have written only makes me wish that I had known him better.

The whole Cruise addicts community extend their condolences to you and to all his family.

I was a friend of Jake's from the Yale/Kanata neighborhood in Transcona. Although I haven't seen Jake since I joined the navy in '61, I have heard news about him over the years as it trickled back to Transcona. I know there are many of his old boyhood friends, like me, that will mourn his passing. My condolences to Heather and Kelly and grandchildren and to his sisters that I remember from the old neighborhood. I was a classmate of Donna's.

From reading his obituary I see that Jake had a rewarding career and family life. Good for him!

My sincerest best wishes.
