John OWENS Obituary

OWENS, John Kenneth "Ken" Jr. John (Ken)neth Owens Jr. was born October 25, 1968 at Ashcroft General Hospital. His early years were spent playing with his siblings and kids he hung with in the streets and the hills of Ashcroft, BC. In his teen years Ken hunted with his dad, rode his motorbike on the trails along the Thompson River, and developed an eclectic taste in music and reading. His parents, Ken Sr. (Helen Rottluff) and Marlene (deceased April 2012) Owens formed their family on strong values, love and good food. God knows Ken loved Mom's cooking! Ken is survived by his birth mother, Donna Owens (David Weddell). Ken was cherished by his siblings Cindy, Cheryl, Tim, Lori, Jeannie, Jackie and Lisa and his brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews and cousins will miss him greatly. Although the bond Ken and Vern McNeice, his childhood friend, share will last through eternity he will be missed by all of the family. Ken met Tanya Owens (nee Polderman, now estranged) during a rec volleyball game and she was the one! They married in September 1997. Ken is survived by his sons, Ryland (13 yrs) and Quinton (10 yrs). He loved his boys, everything he did was for them and every day they knew they were the center of his universe. As a member of Tanya's family for over 17 years, Ken cared a great deal for each of them. Ken came to Victoria in 1987 and since then made many wonderful friends, friendships he kept throughout the years. Ken worked 14 yrs with North Douglas Distributors, a job he enjoyed for the people and the industry. In the early 2000s Ken started his own trucking company and later created Highroad Traffic Maintenance. In both ventures he forged strong connections and even more friendships. When Ken sold his business to Island Traffic Group in 2013, he stayed on to work with Brian and the wonderful team there. In recent years Ken found God, and his brother Jesus. The peace in his faith and love he shared with Laura-Leah in the last months of his life was inspirational. Ken's unique sense of humour, his bluntness and eternal boyishness are now memories that will make us smile. In his walks along the trails at Mt. Doug or Macauley Point with Otis, the wonder dog, and those close to him, Ken often referred to himself as a simple man and, in the very best sense of this, in every way he was. He simply loved life and the people in his life. A Celebration of Life will be held for Ken at Oaklands Chapel, 2736 Fernwood Avenue on Saturday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations for the congregation he attended (Arbutus Christian Fellowship) will be accepted at the door.

Having only known Ken as a neighbour for the last two years, it is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to this lovely man. The love that he had for his boys shone through so brightly. The neighbourhood will miss Ken, the boys and Otis very much.

We had met Kenny at Lana & Vern's and was impressed by his sense of humour and infectious smile. We were always very saddened to hear of the suffering he had endured and kept him in my prayers. He is now at peace and with God and will always be near to his loved ones.
Our condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to to Ken's family. I met Ken through Tanya and volleyball. We lost touch through the years but saw him on the fields at Braefoot last year and he gave such a big hug. I can still remember the warmth and love behind that hug. Rest in peace Ken.

Sorry doesn't even begin to convey the sadness I feel with our loss of Kenny. Where can one even start writing a message like this? I'm sorry is all I can think of, but I know it won't heal your broken hearts but I want it to. Only your strength, time, the support of your family and and friends and your memories of him will ease that pain. I feel blessed to have known him and am so grateful for him being in my life. Little Kenny - go with God- you will forever be in my heart.....

Ken my brother . I only knew you for a few short years but they were very cherished ones . I absolutely loved coming down to the Ashcroft rodeo weekend and spending time just sitting and talking with you . A very interesting and passionate man. I also appreciated that you and your family took the time to come to Tim and I 's wedding back in 2008. Lovely seeing you all there . I loved it when we would tease Tim in front of him about who was the better guy . You used to bug him about being a cowboy you used to say that you were the better dancer . I love you Ken and you are very missed as my brother not a brother in law.

We are so sad to hear about Kens passing , although I only meet him a couple of times Lana & especially Vern always talked so very highly of him. The bond & friendship that they shared was one if a kind, one that a lot of people wish for in a friend! I know Ken will be deeply missed by his loved ones , but his spirit will live on through all of you. God bless you all during this difficult time, but know that Ken will always be with you in your hearts and forever memories! Xoxo Renee (Lana's sister) & family

A wonderful person taken far too soon. Your smiling face and caring personality will never be forgotten. High school was a long time ago but not long enough ago to make me forget you. Rest in peace my friend and may God bless you and your family.
