John PARTON Obituary

John was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Genevieve (née Robertson) and Albert Parton. The family moved to Victoria in 1947 where John went to Willows School and Oak Bay High School. John was a Certified Mechanic and worked at Speedway Volkswagen for over 40 years. He started as a mechanic, became a Service Advisor and Service Manager. These roles combined his love of motors, problem solving, and people.

John loved being active. Until the last few years, he played tennis and pickleball regularly. He spent many years playing slo-pitch and hockey, skiing, biking, walking, and camping. He had boundless energy and thought nothing of getting up before 4am, driving a van full of skiers up to Mt. Washington, skiing all day, and then driving everyone home. He was all about acts of kindness and service and quietly took care of so much for so many.

John had a strong faith and served in many areas of the Christian community. He was a board member of The Firs Bible & Conference Centre (Bellingham, WA), a strong supporter and worker at Camp Imadene, The Cridge Centre for the Family, and Oakland's Chapel. He participated in many fellowship and Bible study groups.

John loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Louise (née Ansdell), daughters Deb Alfawicki and Pamela Parton, sons-in-law Mike Alfawicki and Tim Rodger, grandchildren Lily Alfawicki, Elspeth and Carsten Rodger, sister Sandra Marshall, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and many beloved relatives. He loved and was loved. He will be truly missed.

Thank you to the staff at Kiwanis Pavilion and St. Charles Manor for caring for John the last two years.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to The Cridge Centre for the Family and/or Camp Imadene. A celebration of life will be held in the near future.

Dear Louise, Deb and Pam. I only just learned of John's "promotion to heaven" way over here in Australia. (My sister Beth passed on the news.) John literally treated me as a son when he invited me along to Father-Son camp at the Firs, where after much falling down in the snow, I learned to ski! Thus began many years of enjoying downhill skiing. He was also my Junior High boys Sunday School teacher one year at Oaklands Chapel, and was an important mentor, encourager and friend over the years. May God comfort you in your loss. With love, Brent Weeks

Dear Louise and family;

We were at The Firs in Bellingham this weekend for their 100th anniversary celebration and the subject came up of John and Louise Parton. We told Barb and Greg Kinloch that we would try to get an update on the Partons. When I did an internet search I found John's obituary. What a shock. We will remember you in our prayers. May the God of comfort surround you with His love and comfort during this difficult time. Lots of love Marilyn & Hank Willms

Louise and family, I am saddened to learn of John´s passing. Although we all lived in Cordova Bay, I got to know John through many years of volleyball. He had so much energy! He was a lot of fun and always very kind and interested in me and my family.
It was a pleasure knowing him. My deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Louise. Yvonne and I wish to add our condolences to this growing list of tributes. John really was a wonderful person. I met him at the VW dealership long before I met him at church. He had a special presence about him, and a sense of calm that I found engaging and enigmatic. It was his faith showing through, of this I´m sure. We wish you comfort, you and your family, and look forward to seeing you some time soon. Yvonne and Charles.

I'm so very sorry to hear of John's passing. I worked with John at Speedway Motors back in the mid-late 90s. He was such a fun and kind man and I've thought of him often over the years. My deepest condolences to his family. Jennifer Wells (nee Lefler).

My loving thoughts and sympathies to Louise and the entire family. John was a good friend first of all to my late father Steve Mackey and then later to myself. John was a few years ahead of me at Oak Bay High and much further on organized our weekly tennis group but always remained a friend. We were together at Oaklands Chapel with Louise and my late wife Anne. Great memories! God's grace and help to you all as you grieve the passing of this wonderful man.

Our hearts are with you, Louise and Family. John was a faithful support to The Cridge Centre for the Family and was always ready to roll up his sleeves and serve the community whenever possible. His example has left a legacy. His smile and sense of humour will be missed. We are blessed because of his service and love.

I am sorry for your loss. I worked at Speedway Motors after school and my mother Jean Porter was working in the service department with John as well. He was a kind and funny man. John came to my mothers funeral in 1991 and I was thankful for that. He will be missed.

We have precious memories of John, his love for others and readiness to help make life better for all. John's servant heart spoke to many during his ministry with a team in Bolivia and we are grateful for the example he lived and gave. Our love and prayers are with you, Louise, and all the family.

So many things to say about dear John - friend and "Uncle John" to our children. Memories shared together at our home, at Oaklands Chapel, working together at Camp Imadene (John loved working the ski dock!), showing up at hockey games & music concerts, and also many adventures camping on Vancouver Island. So thankful for this godly man, his big heart and his love for others. We will miss you, John. Until we meet again! Love from Mark & Dorothy Hawes, Ashley, Colin & Jenny. xo
