John Rose Obituary

On Tuesday July 26th, Budweiser executives braced themselves for sales to drop and stock prices to plummet with the news of John Roses' passing.

To have known Rosie was to have loved Rosie. Wherever he went, he inevitably ran into a familiar face and always stopped to catch up and share a laugh, whether in Victoria where he grew up and started his family with his beloved first wife Ruth, whom he lost in 1988, or in Salmo, BC where he spent the last 15 years with his loving partner Rita.

John was extremely kind-hearted, with smiling blue eyes and a memorable laugh that could fill a room. Blessed with a wicked sense of humour, he was never one to miss a 'teaching' opportunity. He taught many how one person could also be a lighthouse, a seagull or even a piece of bacon frying. He also taught us that in almost any situation there is a joke or pun to be found.

When it came to work, he was one of the best in the business. An electrician for 48 years, he still enjoyed sharing his knowledge and methods, loved working the tools and took great pride in every job.

He also loved and took great pride in his family and being a Grandpa and Papa. He leaves behind 2 kids, 3 step kids, 5 awesome grandkids....and Nascar. Which, let's be honest, was always his favourite of them all.

He will be greatly missed.

The family asks anyone wishing to honour John to please do so through Canadian Blood Services with either a monetary donation, blood donation or to register with OneMatch. A get together of family and friends will take place on September 25, 2016 at 3111 Kingsley St., Victoria, BC at 2pm.

I was very saddened to hear of John's recent passing. John and I attended school together from Lansdowne JR High and Mt. Douglas High. His pal Glenn Leach, John and I were good friends and John, with his sense of humour was often the bain of my existence during class. One incident I remember vividly to this day; at Mt. Doug, when the students were trying to raise money for some cause and we had a 'dunk tank'. Students lined up, bought 3 balls and threw them at the target. Everyone was dunked except me. John ducked under the ropes, ran up and punched the target and down I went into very cold water! He was always one for laughs.

About 8 years ago we had a quick email exchange through Classmates.com and that was the last contact. It is sad to lose our school pals as there are so many memories of silly pranks and laughter.

To John's family I send my deepest sympathy for the loss of such a fun loving and great guy.

John was part of the 'Nerd' group of grads who organized our 20th & 25th Mt. Doug High School Reunion. We had so much fun and laughs and tears. Unfortunately, we had lost touch although we did try to contact John regarding our 50th high school reunion. We all loved John, most especially his wry sense of humour often as an aside. Our heartfelt condolences to Rita and family. Carol Williams, Alan Holmes, Jeanie Thomson, Jeannie Kinnis, Wendy Gedney. I

My family and I are very sad to hear of John's passing. The Rose's lived across the street from us when we were growing up. John and my brother Glenn were best buddies from the time they were very young. We had the pleasure of seeing John and meeting Rita 2 years ago at Glenn's celebration of life. My Mom was so happy to see him and she had hoped to see him again. She is deeply saddened. Our thoughts are with Rita and the family at this difficult time.

Paul & I were surprised and saddened to see the news of John's passing...we haven't had contact in a long while but enjoyed many fun times together in the earlier years. He and Ruth were dear friends and we miss them both. Best wishes to all the family as you raise a glass to one helluva guy!!!
