I met John through cycling in Nanaimo and rode with him often. He was an inspiration to us all. I will always remember being part of his 85th Birthday ride from Nanaimo, through Parksville and through Qualicum Beach. He set the course and the pace, ending up home after much more than the planned 85 Km. I always admired his spirit and his physical abilities. Ride on John!
PS: Love the picture chosen of John on his "Bike Friday" on the "Top Bridge" to P. Alberni

Dear Lavana,
I am sorry to now read about the death of John. I have met him some 40 years ago, when I stayed with the family in Port Alberni for half a year. I would like top get in contact with you to share some memories. Would that be possible? Thank you. Sincerely, Rik ten Cate.

Dear Lavana and family, I was sad to read that John passed away recently. I have always cherished the memory of your wonderful hospitality and friendship when I met you in Port Alberni so many years ago. With you in spirit.

I fondly remember John having met him in Pt. Alberni at a workshop I presented, then again in Victoria when I was speaking at a church. My condolences Lavana.

Oom Jan was a fine uncle. He taught me how to ski up on Forbidden Plateau. Got to ride in the rumble seat of his old model T as a kid. He took me for a tour of the Alberni Valley and out to the west coast in his Stinson tail dragger air plane. Many happy memories. Dirk
