Joyce Golding Clearihue Obituary

CLEARIHUE, Dr. Joyce Golding

The late Dr. Joyce Golding Clearihue was a native Victorian, who passed away on July 11, 2023. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Irene Clearihue, and was their only child. Judge Joseph Clearihue was a driving force behind the founding of the University of Victoria, while Dr. Irene Clearihue was the first woman doctor to graduate from Guy's Hospital in London England. Joyce followed in her mother's footsteps, becoming a distinguished dermatologist.
Joyce was also predeceased by her beloved Warren Levecke, with whom she found great happiness in her later years.
Joyce was an avid downhill skier up until her mid-80's and an active member of the Victoria Outdoors Club. Joyce left a strong legacy to the community, as she was a life-long supporter of several Victoria institutions, including the YWCA, the Royal BC Museum, Craigdarroch Castle and the University of Victoria, and left a significant land contribution to the Capital Region parks system at Charters Creek in the Sooke Highlands.

While it was the wish of Dr. Clearihue that there would be no service, all her friends are kindly invited to celebrate Joyce's life at a reception and luncheon, which is to be held at the Union Club of British Columbia at 805 Gordon Street, Victoria BC on Sunday October 22, 2023 from 1 pm to 3 pm. Joyce's friends can respond with their interest in this event to Hope Londres, Trust Administrator, at Royal Trust Corporation of Canada, via telephone at 1-604-665-8906 or via email [email protected].
For estate related questions, kindly contact Quynh Nguyen, Associate Trust Officer, via telephone at 604-717-2055 or via email at [email protected].
Joyce will be missed greatly by all who knew her well.

Joyce was a good friend. She was an unpretentious, kind, and generous woman and never bragged about the countless and generous contributions she made to the many organizations and causes in the Victoria area and beyond, most of them done quietly.

Joyce had a full life and, as she told me on several occasions, was ready to leave. She was an amazing, extraordinary woman who made a tremendous impact on her world. We thank and love her for it. Goodbye, Joyce, and happy trails.

Dr. Joyce Clearihue was my dermatologist when I was a very small baby and young child and helped me with skin problems that occurred again in my early teen years. Her simple treatments included diet changes that were extremely effective and proactive. She didn´t just rely on medications but advocated that I undertake lifestyle changes that really worked. Dr. Clearihue was ahead of her time and brilliant. She will be missed and I am eternally grateful to her.

Joyce was our near and dear neighbour for more than 20 years.
Her energy and enthusiasm were boundless, and her Joie de vivre inspirational.
She is missed; but, she has left us with many warm memories.
