June Playsted Obituary

June passed peacefully in her sleep August 22, 2019 at the age of 88.

June is survived by her two loving sons Chris Playsted of Victoria and Gary Playsted (Lynn); her two adoring grandsons Colton and Kyle, all of Calgary, Alberta.

June was predeceased by her husband Herb Playsted April 1975 and her long-time companion Karl Maas March 2017.

June was the youngest of seven daughters; Eileen Robertson, Catherine Hunter, Vivian Eyjolfson, Mabel Stein, Molly Galbraith, Doreen Stokes and older sister to Larry Tymo, all of whom she survived.

Special thanks to the incredible staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their comfort and care in June's final days and to the very kind staff at Rivera Parkwood Court and Sunrise of Victoria who provided great assistance and kindness during the last couple years of June's life.

It allowed her to live knowing she was always safe while maintaining her dignity.

There will no service at this time but rather a family celebration of life at a future date when her entire family can attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations in June's memory would be appreciated and gratefully accepted to Alzheimer's Society of B.C.

Wow! To learn about June Playsted's death today took me back decades to a time when we both worked at the Royal Bank on the corner of Davie & Granville in Vancouver. I was a 17 year old newbie and started on Collections at the bank. It was my job to deliver and pickup bank drafts from clients in the neighbourhood. June was secretary to the accountants and I helped her out a bit by typing welcome letters to new clients. About two years after I joined the bank June became engaged to marry Herbie Playsted who was the brother of Evelyn, the manager's secretary. When Evelyn left on maternity leave June moved up to manager's secretary and I, much to my disbelief, became the office steno. And when June left a year or so later, I then took her job.
In those days June was a ravishing long-haired brunette but she was also a woman of great kindness and compassion. For years after we both left the bank and went our separate ways June never failed to phone me on my birthday. How she remembered - or even knew - I was never able to find out. Perhaps about ten years ago those phone calls stopped coming and I assumed that June had passed on. I am so happy to learn that her two boys grew into manhood and that she was blessed with grandsons. I know she would have been proud of all of you. My condolences and best wishes. Ivy
