Kara GOETZE Obituary

GOETZE Kara Lee (nee McMurray) September 25, 1976 - October 30, 2023. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Kara. Left devastated are husband Rob, daughters Danika, Brielle and Cianna, mom & dad Fred & Rose McMurray, brother Kevin (Tracy), Aunt Joanne Holyoak and cousins Lauren MacInnis (birthday twin!) and Jason Holyoak as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends as well as her loyal companion, Gracie.

Kara attended the West Coast College of Massage Therapy and launched her much-loved career as a Registered Massage Therapist. Without skipping a beat, she opened her own clinic, Burnside Massage Therapy, so she could balance work and her family. She created many lifelong friends through her work, some of whom were with her for over 16 years. Kara had an amazing gift for making people feel cared for and loved, all the while with her elbow in your back!

Besides her family and friends, Kara's next love was figure skating. She coached, volunteered, watched, cheered, competed and sometimes offered advice to our kids (not always appreciated at the time!). Even when she could no longer skate, she stayed on the executive at the Saanich Skating Club and continued to contribute in all their activities.

After her diagnosis, true to form, she continued to look after her family. Coaching, driving, working, cheering, and sending us loving little notes; she never stopped. The Cancer was in the way, but it never became who she was. When she lost her gorgeous blond hair she was devastated, but again she just pushed it aside, tossed her wig on and drove to the rink to coach or be with the kids. We were in awe that she never breathed a word of complaint.

Kara, you endured the unimaginable and took each day head-on, doing what you did best, looking after your family, and all the while knowing that your time was growing short. Our guiding lights are a little more dim today but we are thankful for all that you gave us, showed us, and the endless love you shared with us. The emptiness we feel now is only slightly lessened by the comfort of knowing you are blessedly at peace.

We would like to thank Victoria Hospice for their kind and compassionate care as well as all of the family & friends that sat by Kara's bedside around the clock to be sure she was never alone.

We would also like to thank everyone who dropped off food, flowers, cards and sent notes and well wishes. Kara would have been so happy about the love that was shown to our family.

I have so much more to write, Kara, but I know if you saw the cost of this obituary, you would have told me to save the money and buy some new skating dresses! Don't worry, babe. I did that too. XO

I am heartbroken to hear this devastating news. Sending you all the deepest sympathies for this amazing woman whom I met when I taught her daughter Danika. She was an incredibly parent helper and went above and beyond her call of duty. I also got to witness first hand her amazing skills as a massage therapist. You will be missed by many people in the community but will maintain many special memories in our hearts. Hugs to you all. Gale Penner

I first met Rob in my first year out of College and when I was new to Canada. What impressed me about him as a cable contractor was not only his work ethic and ambition but his love for his new wife. As I got to know him better over time we became work colleagues and then friends. In these years I've listened to him speak with great love, affection and pride for his family. It is though listening to him and observing his family that I learned there is still such a thing as love and commitment in this world. You're an inspiration Rob and I'm so glad that you and Kara found each other, created a beautiful family and had the opportunity to have this time together. I'm proud of you. Kara lives on through you and your love for your children.

Dear Rob, Rosemary, Fred, Kevin, Danika, Brielle and Cianna,
I am so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful tribute to Kara! She was always smiling and optimistic and cared for her family so much!! I remember meeting her many years ago when she was in her early 20's through my husband, Frank's work. She hadn't changed a bit through those years. Although she is not with us anymore, she will continue to shine on in the beautiful memories that you have of her. My heart goes out to you all!! Biggest hugs.

Dear Fred, Rosie, Kevin, Rob and the girls. We cannot find the words to express our condolences to all of you. We knew Kara for over 40 years, she babysat our daughter in the early 90´s and we worked together when she was her dad´s assistant and then she met Rob and moved on to her massage therapy. We will always remember her beautiful smile and amazing good nature towards others. She will be in heaven looking down on us with her great spirit. May she rest in peace. Randy and Wendy Sangha

We are so sorry to hear of Kara's passing. She fought a hard fight for a long time , with a lot of support from Rob, the girls, and all of the family and friends. We watched her as she grew up , married Rob, had the girls, started her beloved business, and enjoyed all the aspects of figure skating she enjoyed. Although it was cut short she had a full family life and gave all of her family lots of great memories. She will be missed bigtime by all who knew her. RIP Kara, you will live on in memories.
