Karen Alexander Obituary

ALEXANDER, Karen (nee Langstaff) Karen died suddenly (aneurysm) on July 6th, 2016 while on vacation with her family in Parksville. She was born in Nelson, BC, on October 10, 1946. Karen is survived by her loving husband Ralston; her daughter Kristen (Simon) Doran, her son John; grandchildren Rory and Katie Doran; brother John (Judy) Langstaff and sister Elaine (George) Steacy and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by many other close relatives and special friends. Karen and Ralston were childhood sweethearts and were married in Salmon Arm, BC in 1967. They moved to Victoria in 1969 to start their careers and family. When the kids were in school, Karen returned to teaching, which gave her great satisfaction and enjoyment. Karen was an avid reader, a life-long learner and was always curious about the world and its history. She loved travelling and the international cruises that she and Ralston enjoyed in recent years. That being said, her greatest love was her family to whom she was the most devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her unlimited capacity for kindness and caring for others. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at First Metropolitan United Church at 932 Balmoral Road, on Saturday, July 16th at 2pm, with Rev. Wilda Cottam officiating. A reception will follow at the Uplands Golf Club at 3.30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's name to the Migraine Research Foundation - https://migraineresearchfoundation.org

Ralston and Family: Tim and I are so sorry to hear about Karen. We feel like the world has lost a really special, kind soul. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I was happy to hear from Pat that you had all recently spent some wonderful time together making some great memories. How lovely to have had this time. I hope that those memories sustain you a bit better and that they ease your grieving a little. Karen was a most special woman - truly beautiful inside and out and we are all so blessed to have memories of her.

I have such wonderful memories of your Mum, Kristen and John. When I was little (and practically lived at your house), I got to see how amazing she and your Dad were together - so fun and loving. I will always remember her caring manner, big brown station wagon, fantastic book suggestions, awesome smile, how welcome she always made me feel, and so many other things. I'm sending you all love.

I'm so terribly sorry you've lost your lovely Mom so unexpectedly and way too soon. My heart goes out to the family and especially Kristen and John who were my students in the early days. Your Mom was such a sweet lady a fabulous mother and a great teacher. All I can do now is say a prayer for all of you and send healing hugs your way.

I have carried deep sadness today, at the notice that you, Kristen, John and of course Rolston, have lost your deeply loving Mom and Life Partner. It was a joy to share friendship with Karen. She was always full of sunshine whenever I saw her. Your lives were blessed!
