Karin McFadden Obituary
McFADDEN, Karin Doreen (Brame, nee Elander) Passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice on 15 June 2014, at the age of 78. Karin is predeceased by her parents Knut and Anna Therese Elander, 10 siblings, first husband Bert Brame and second husband Fred McFadden. Karin is lovingly remembered by her 5 children, Kirby, Kenny, Kelly (Kendal), Steven (Meagan) and Linda (Sean) and her 8 grandchildren, as well as 3 great grand-children, numerous nieces and nephews, and of course Tinkerbell. Karin, the youngest daughter of a family of 13 children, is survived by her brother Gary Elander (Pat) and Doris Lewis, both of Victoria. Karin was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan in 1936 although her family relocated to Victoria when she was a child. Karin went on to marry Bert Brame, living and working in Whitehorse until Bert's death after which she moved to Terrace BC. Always a Victoria girl at heart, Karin returned in 1972 where she worked in the hospitality industry and raised 5 children on her own. Patrons of the Colwood Inn will remember her as the vibrant and friendly bartender / server with the fabulous smile. Karen eventually re-married to a handsome man named Fred McFadden and they lived happily until his death in 1995. Karin enjoyed traveling - whether on a cruise, a family trip to Disneyland or her annual migration south to Arizona. She also enjoyed camping with her family well into her 70's. Karin was an avid curler, golfer and bingo player. She was active in her children's and grandchildren's lives and has left a wonderful legacy of fond memories and funny stories. We would like to convey our sincere thanks to all who gave their support during a sad time and to the staff of the Westshore Home & Community Care, Victoria Hospice Team, Liz and Irene for their excellent care. The service of remembrance will be held at 1:00pm on September 27th at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive Victoria BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or the BC Cancer Clinic.
