Kathleen Nelson Obituary

NELSON, Kathleen Ann (nee Wolff)
August 30, 1952 - August 29, 2025
Kathleen Ann Nelson, a beloved mother, sister and community pillar, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 just one day shy of her 73rd birthday.

Born in Saskatchewan, Kathleen was the oldest of eight siblings. Raised in Port Alberni, Kathleen spent her childhood and was educated there before marrying Dave Nelson, with whom she moved to Port McNeill in the early 70's. There Kathleen played a pivotal role with Dave, in building the community, starting with residential homes and later expanding into commercial projects that left a lasting impact.

While building the business with Dave, Kathleen also worked in the office of the local logging company, MacMillan Bloedel, with her salary helping cover expenses as they expanded their interests.

With her friend Jen, Kathleen started the first cat rescue center in town. She was passionate about animals, especially cats and dogs.

Kathleen was a very active member of the Local Rotary Club. Through Rotary, Kathleen participated in the "joy of Learning" program, creating canvas bags which the local elementary students would draw theme pictures of the joy of reading.

Kathleen's generosity extended far beyond her professional life. After retiring, she moved to Victoria , where she volunteered for numerous organizations, including Sendial of Thrifty Foods, Highland Games, Soap for Hope, Habitat for Humanity store and the VICPD Citizen Patrol Program. She enjoyed volunteering at tournaments, traveling as far as Hawaii, Lake Tahoe and other cities in the USA. Her other passion was paddling on the Gorge waterway.

Known for her philanthropy, Kathleen always preferred to remain anonymous about her contributions.

Kathleen is survived by her daughter Andrea, who was her pride and joy. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Her burial has already taken place in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathleen's memory can be made to the charity of your choice.

Hi there. Kathleen will be missed by her Rotary Club here in Victoria. She was wonderful. I also worked with Kathleen as a fellow owner at Polo Pacific. I want to ensure kathleen's family knew how much she was treasured at Rotary - and Polo Pacific. She led the way. Kevin
