Kathie was a dear friend for over seventy years. With her remarkable memory she was always able to recapture events from our shared past. I will never forget her and shall miss her wise advice, her humor and her caring.

I was introduced to Kathie by my cousin on a trip to Vancouver Island in 2009. Kathie welcomed me into her home with such graciousness and I rememberer being enthralled by the wonderful stories she told. I recently became the very proud owner of a signed copy of her book The Maypo Lea Forever, which I am in the process of reading. The book and the fond memories of my visit are both something I will treasure forever. It was a privilege to have met Kathie.

Kathie was a friend, mentor and an inspiration to me throughout my life. I first knew her as a dear friend of my mother's and I feel honoured to have shared that friendship throughout my life and to have been able to share her with Christine, Avril and Trish. From theatre, to poetry, to being a positive influential force in my life and career choices, I saw in Kathie the kind of woman I hoped to become. She is gone, but we get to keep her light. Thank you for shining so brightly.

We will miss our visits with Kathy. What a remarkable woman! I read the book "Miss Rumphius" to my students every year and I will dedicate it to Kathy because she was a real life Miss Rumphius. She sailed off to far away places, she lived in a cottage by the sea and she did many things to make the world more beautiful!

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy through the Friends of Cole Island Society when she volunteered to make sandwiches for our clean-up crew one year! I felt very privileged when she invited me to her home and we spent an afternoon having tea and talking about her remarkable life. What a wonderful, kind and generous person she was. I'll always remember Kathy with the utmost fondness and respect and her presence will always be felt in the little bay she looked out on from her window.

Kathie was a lovely, gracious lady. Both Carl and I had much love and respect for her. She had much love to give and frequently did that in her own quiet, calm way. Kathie was an overcomer and accepted what each day brought her with great dignity and a very positive attitude. Family and friends will truly miss her! Jean Peterson

Although having not re-joined the Nash clan until 1989 after a 50 year separation I soon became good friends with Kathie resulting in Irene and I having met her on multiple occasions at her homes and at various other locations and family functions in both BC and Alberta. If I were to focus on one aspect of Kathie's character it would have to be her dedication to the Nash family as exhibited first,- by the amount of effort she expended to research, assemble, and publish the contents of the Nash family heritage binder which she completed and distributed in 1995, and secondly, - by the amount of travelling she did throughout BC, Alberta, and to the east in order to visit various members of the family. A bright light by nature whom we shall miss to no end!
