Kenneth MONKHOUSE Obituary

MONKHOUSE, Kenneth Allan Mr. Easy-Going himself who really practiced One Day at a Time passed away as he lived his life, peacefully on November 10, 2004 at The Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria. Ken was born in Sardis, B.C. on April 1, 1909, in the same year as Benny Goodman The King of Swing and one year after Henry Ford introduced the Model T. He was therefore able to drive (3 kids in the back seat going 800 miles a day at 100 miles an hour!) and dance (he would say, put on your black strapless Alice, we're going dancing!) his way through life! Ken was nurtured by many older siblings in a large family and worry was not part of his vocabulary. He was turned down by the Army due to his Flat Feet and tucked away in the tiny community of Port Alice where he was a millwright for 33 years (until his retirement in1974) he says his only weapon was a flashlight. So Ken's gift to his 5 children, Marilyn Wallace (Burnaby), Allan Monkhouse (Whiterock), Kathryn Fuller (Las Vegas), Susan Lees (Victoria) and Sarah Ross (Victoria), his 16 grandchildren (especially Leona and Crystal Fyfe), many great-grandchildren, friends and relatives was his easy spirit of love, joy, generosity and peace. Although his wives, first Peggy and second Alice (both deceased) were not always able to enjoy Ken's carefree ways to the extent that he did, Ken loved and appreciated the role they played in his journey. He loved people (especially children), dogs, music, cars, fine clothing, basketball and vanilla ice-cream! Ken's family would like to thank all those who cared for him at Central Care Lodge and The Lodge at Broadmead over the past 11 years. He will be honored along with others at a memorial gathering at the Lodge at Broadmead on December 3rd at 1:30 pm. There will be a family gathering in Sardis at a later date. 12470
