Kevin Scott Obituary

On the final 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century, Kevin Scott passed peacefully at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. Kevin is preceded in death by Blayney and Almeda Scott; whom which we believe welcomed him home with open arms at 9:52pm PST. Countless family members and friends supported him during these trying and difficult months in passing; and we believe that all the love that showered him truly expediated his soul into our hearts.

Kevin's life partner and wife of over 33 years, Rosemary Scott and children Alexandra and Graham Scott, will cherish all the amazing memories they created. His grandchildren, Scarlett and Georgia Scott-Lafortune visibly brought Kevin so much joy in his final weeks here on earth. Not only was he an incredible father to both children, but Kevin took countless other individuals under his wing. One of the most generous and kind-hearted people of his time.

Kevin is survived by his older brother Ian and two sisters, Rosalind and Megan Scott. He and his siblings grew up near the ocean in Victoria and each partook in the established family business known as Scott Plastics Ltd., which is now recognized as Scotty Manufacturing Ltd. within the marine, fishing, firefighting and outdoor industry world-wide. Scotty looks forward to continuing manufacturing in Sidney, BC and will be transitioning into its' third generation of family operation. Kevin was a true man of the people, and his physical presence will be dearly missed at work.

Kevin was a talented musician, playing the drums and keyboards, singing and composing. His bands were involved in Victoria's rock music scene during the 70's and toured Western Canada. Scott was very engaged in both the racing and motocross communities here on Vancouver Island and across Canada; leaving his mark with generous initiatives and formed friendships. People gravitated to Kevin because of his remarkable humour, ability to ignite improvements and comradery among all those involved.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Royal Jubilee Hospital. The family of Kevin Anthony Davis Scott wishes to thank Dr. Brian McArdle, Dr. Jeremy Murray Guenther, Dr. Andrew Kwasnica, Rozalyn Milne, Courteney Heyer and the incredibly caring staff at Jubilee and San Pen Hospital.

A celebration of life will take place at Scott's property sometime after the Spring Equinox.

For many, we will grieve and feel this huge hole that now resides in our hearts, but we must take comfort during this winters' solstice; for the dark gives rise to the new light within us.

Just heard of Kevin's passing and offer condolences to family and friends. I worked with Kevin in the 1970's and have fond memories of a funny and charismatic young man. Kevin would often sing at work and make up his own lyrics to popular songs- great stuff! So glad to have known Kevin.

I was Shocked to hear of Kevin's passing, condolences to the Scott family . I knew Kevin from High School and beyond. Always thinking about how to make something new or better.

As we aged into the eighties Kevin and I met at the Nanaimo bathtub races year after year he escorted a tub across to Vancouver he in his fiberglass runabout me in the Zodiac RIB with Dan Smith of Oceanus Plastics sadly another friend gone too soon, one year we were side by side in really rough weather Kevin had a 9.9 hp Mercury outboard on a bracket beside the main outboard. It was bouncing around as the bracket started to come apart. I got his attention with hand signals and he looked back at the motor -- then looking across at me he just had an ear to ear grin on his face.
A few minutes later the motor departed the transom but Kevin had a chain locked to the motor -probably 10/12 feet long.
The motor now was doing a dance -- it would hit the water and bounce at the end of the chain about 6 to 10 feet high again and again. Getting his attention again with arms waving and pointing to the rear of the boat Kevin looked back and without touching the throttle looked back at us and lifted both arms high in the air with a huge grin --meaning what do you want me to do about it?

After 10 minutes or so the chain decided it had enough of this and parted the scene along with the motor which is now sitting at the bottom of what was the Georgia Strait.

Great Memories

So sad to hear of Kevin´s recent passing. Although it´s been many years since I´ve seen him I remember Kevin fondly as a kind soul, witty character and all around cool guy. Sincere condolences, to Rosemary and their children, as well as Ian, Rosalind, Megan and the entire Scott family from the Paynes.

When we moved from Nanaimo to Victoria, I was 5 and he was my favorite cousin, because he would throw me in the air and twirl me around in their big kitchen. We still talk about the go cart day, my kids and I had in his back yard and what a total blast that was. I know he's having a great time in heaven with the people he's lost over the years. He will be missed a lot, by many people.

Kevin was one of the most generous and friendly guys around the mx pits...I know he provided more than one replacement part for me in the old days of riding in California over spring break...and would never take payment. Thanks for the lever and tube Kevin, but more importantly, your kindness. Thinking of Graham and your family.

Each life is touched by others.
Kevin not only was caring and kind, but had a humorous sharp wit that one seldom experiences.
You may not have shared the thought but if you didn't smile just a little you just did not know this man.
Our deepest sympathy to all of the family

Kevin was a close friend during our formative teenage years. We had many good laughs together in high school and lots of adventures. Fond memories include watching the band practice in the Scott´s family basement, hanging at our Shawnigan Lake property and playing sports. One of my most cherished memories was accompanying Kevin and his family on the `Mess´ for a cruise to Desolation Sound in the summer of `73. Gretha and I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Scott family and to everyone who had the privilege to know him.

Hello Toast!

From sliding baby A across my parents 30ft+ new wooden livingroom floor, to editing out the sea witch in Little mermaid and building a track around your yard. You were a great human being and Dad. I am so sorry to all those that love you for their loss. You left many humorous tidbits along the way. I am sad those Grandbabies will miss out on your physical presence but maybe once in a while you can give them a little nudge to keep their Mama and Nana on their toes and knowing you are never far.

Au revoir croissant

Ian, Rosalind and Megan,
I was shocked and saddened to hear of Kevin's untimely passing. Growing up with the Scott family in James Bay, Kevin was always fun to be around. Whether it was shooting plastic darts (probably illegal today), or having adventures along the Dallas Road waterfront, Kevin was and will always be, part of a wonderful set of memories. Condolences to all at this sad time.

It was with shock and great sadness that I learn of Kevin's death. I know that he will have a long lasting effect on many people's lives; his great sense of humour and eye for the absurd, his enthusiasm for such a great variety of endeavours and his open, generous spirit.
We may consider ourselves the lucky ones in that we have had the great fortune of knowing such a man.

What a beautiful obituary....though I only met Kevin briefly a few times, I sensed something very special about him. And this 21/21/21 timing he chose is so amazing and unique, even the 21st hour...almost prophetic. May God guide you gently through this very difficult time with the love and support of many.

So sorry to hear of his passing, Kevin was a great teacher and mentor, I have many wonderful memories learning from him when I was younger. He was always doing things, whether tinkering with a mini bike or working on boats, always coming up with ideas. He also had one of the quickest and wittiest sense of humors I have ever known, we will miss him terribly.
