I was a student of Laura´s at Stratford School in Edmonton, back in grades 4 and 5. While I don´t remember every detail from those years, I do remember that she was one of the best teachers I ever had as a child. I recently came across some of my old elementary yearbooks, and seeing her picture brought back many memories. That´s how I learned of her passing, and it made me pause and reflect on the impact she had on me. I didn´t know her beyond those grades, but I´ll never forget her kindness and the way she could make the whole class laugh with her funny stories. I wasn´t best student, and not every teacher enjoyed having me in their class, but Laura never made me feel like I didn´t belong. I wouldn´t expect her to remember me, but she is one of the few teachers I will always remember. Thank you for everything, Laura.

I met Laura at UVIC in September 1980. We were both mature students so we had a lot in common. I was still dealing with PTSD and found Laura to be tremendously kind, compassionate, open-hearted, understanding. She was the genuinely the best friend I have ever had, in my seven decades of living. I had the chance to spend some time with her last summer when she came to Victoria. I did not know, nor was I expecting it to be the last time. I can not think of her without tears. Laura was living proof, that the good do indeed die young. My heart is broken.

Hello Ambere and Gigi (sorry I have forgotten your full name) , my sister Marg and I were sad to read of your Mum's passing. She and Tom were a large part of our family's life in Sooke and Metchosin in the 1970s at Sooke Marine. Over the years I met people who had childen at CCCSchool and were very fond of Laura. I think the last time I saw her was when you were still living in Kitimat. Please let us know when the service will be in the spring. We will keep an eye on the paper for announcement. Sympathies to you and your families. Liz (Wickheim) Koolman
