Lawrence MAXWELL Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce Larry's passing on May 8, 2025, in Victoria, BC at the age of 93.

Born on September 26, 1931 in New Westminster, BC. He grew up in the Vancouver area and moved to Vancouver Island in 1977.

Larry began his career as a truck driver before transitioning to dental sales, where he spent 36 successful years with Canadian Dental Supply Company. He was consistently a top performer and was honored with lifetime membership in the Victoria and District Dental Society.

Larry's love for the outdoors, sense of adventure, knack for working with his hands and his willingness to try new things is evidenced by his many hobbies and interests throughout his life.

In his younger years, he rode motorcycles, was a Ski Patrol member at Grouse Mountain, and competed in quickdraw pistol competitions. As time went on, he enjoyed roller skating, family ski trips, building & flying remote-controlled model airplanes, gold panning, and skeet shooting.

Above all, fishing was his lifelong passion. A skilled and accomplished saltwater, steelhead, and fly fisherman, he spent countless hours on the water.

He was a member of Kingfisher Rod & Gun Club, Janice Lake Loony Birds, Victoria Radio Control Modellers Club and SVI Rangers.

He loved caring for others through food. Whether bringing Tim Bits, banana bread, and coffee or designated camp cook on fishing trips, he took joy in feeding those around him. His spaghetti and meatballs, waffles, crab, and cabbage rolls were legendary among family and friends.

Larry was known for his cheerful smile, kind heart, and goofy sense of humor. He always strove to do the right thing and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Lorie; his children Stacey, Robin (Doug), Janine (Graham), Michael (Amy) and 5 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Edward Gravelle.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 1:00pm at SVI Rangers Hall, 3498 Luxton Road, Langford BC.

Lori and family,
For the many times Larry was always available to us with his willingness to do whatever he could for the skaters, the parents that just needed a leader to show them "it could be done" and all with his incredible sense of humor. He was always one of the parents that made competitions or carnivals reachable for all. Thank you all for sharing him with us. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need some help.
