Lennis RODDICK Obituary

Lee passed away peacefully at North Island Hospital, Comox, on December 23, 2023. Born in Spencerville, Ontario, the youngest child of 8, Lee was predeceased by his beloved parents, Jack and Doris, brothers Paul and Dale, brother-in-law Don Sloan, and nephew Mark. He is survived by his dear siblings Beatrice Wells (Ron), Gary Roddick (Elizabeth), Wanda Sloan, Heather Mortimer (Michael), Yvonne Roddick, sister-in-law Barb Roddick, and former wife and lifelong friend Marylyn Roddick.

After graduating high school Lee headed west to Edmonton for 3 years, where he apprenticed, and then to Vancouver Island where he worked as a Journeyman Autobody Repair Technician. After an accident left him paraplegic he moved to Cumberland, a community he loved and enjoyed and in which he felt at home.

Lee's generous spirit, love of life, family and friends, and wicked sense of humour was an inspiration to many and he is missed by all. We will never forget his reminder that "life is not a dress rehearsal" and hearing his voice wishing us a wonderful day.

Heartfelt thanks to his VIHA home care nursing team, Rhonda et al. (he loved you all); his home support workers (Anna and others throughout the years); his Doctors and Health Care Team at Comox, Campbell River, and GF Strong. Thanks also, his ICU team (Michelle and others) and his many dear friends in the community of Cumberland. He loved and appreciated you all.

A Celebration Life will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2:00-4:30 pm at the Cumberland Legion #28. (Children under the age of 19 are not permitted to attend due to liquor regulations.)

Oh how I miss you Uncle Lee. Our times together were short, but your zest for life and your positive attitude in the face of adversity was an inspiration to me. Life is definitely not a dress rehearsal. I know you are "rolling along" in a better place. And I hope you have your fiddle. Dan Roddick

Michael Harvey

Hi,
I'm Michael Harvey, [email protected], in Victoria. I just read this obituary in the Victoria Times Colonist and think we are likely related. My mother's side came from Scotland and settled in the Farmersville, now Athens, area of eastern Ont. Early members lived in Lyndhurst and operated mills on the small river that runs from the Rideau River to the St. Lawrence. My cousin Elizabeth Lane, daughter of my mother's brother Dr. Jack Roddick, had put a lot of effort into documenting the Roddick lineage. She unfortunately died a few years ago in Ottawa.
If any of this sounds familiar and you would like to explore our interconnections, please let me know.
