GODFREY, Leslie P. January 14, 1930 March 6, 2008 It is with great sorrow that the family of Leslie Godfrey announce his passing from unforeseen complications following surgery. Deeply saddened by his death are his wife of 56 years, Catherine, his 6 children Patti (Gary), Teri (Mike), Leslie (Art), Michele (Art), Bob (Karen), Daniel and Tracey who was like another daughter; his 11 grandchildren Mike (Denay), Sean (Monica), Chris, Heather, Nicole, Sarah (Brent), Emily, CJ, Ben, Tyler, Samantha and great grandson Tyler, plus one on the way. Also left to mourn are his brothers Wilf (Dorothy), Bob and sister Gladys (Bill) and Carl. plus many nephews and nieces. Les was predeceased by his parents Horace and Irene, niece Karen Godfrey and mother and father-in-law Esther and Harry Armstrong. Les was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan and met, then married Catherine, the love of his life. They were married in Saskatoon in June 1952. They embarked on a wonderful family life, spending time in Jasper, Edmonton and Kitimat, before settling in Victoria for the majority of their children's school years. They also spent a number of years living in Surrey, just prior to his retirement and in Sidney following his retirement. They spent the last six years living in Chilliwack on Michele and Art's farm where dad enjoyed puttering in his garden and greenhouse and enticing flocks of birds to his many feeders. Les' working career began with the CN Railway in Saskatoon, followed by several years in the aluminium smelter in Kitimat and many years as a longshoreman on the west coast. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to surgeon Dr. Lewis, dad's family physician in Chilliwack, Dr. Grunow and the staff of the third floor Medical Unit of Chilliwack Hospital who were exceptional in their compassionate care and respect of dad and our family during his final days. Dad, this is the longest drive you've ever hit a straight shot to heaven. Mr. Godfrey was always my "second dad" growing up as I was always at their house on Haultain. I have many fond memories of the Godfrey/Miles picnincs, football games and many other happy memories. My love and thoughts are with you all.
