Leslie Saddlemyer Obituary

SADDLEMYER, Leslie Keith August 4, 1959 - January 9, 2017 Passed away suddenly at the age of 57 while working in France. Leslie is survived by his wife and soulmate Theodora, his much loved and treasured sons Justin (Michelle) and Aleksander (Montana), father Keith, sister Eugenie, aunt Ann and many other loving relatives and friends. Predeceased by his mother Jenny Saddlemyer in 1983. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Les moved to North Saanich where he met the love of his life Theodora in 1981 and shared 35 happy years of love, adventure and travel. Leslie was a brilliant but humble man whose passion for work was demonstrated in his outstanding contributions to countless projects in astronomy as an astronomical engineer for NRC Herzberg Institute of Astrophysics. Beyond his intelligence and world-renowned expertise, his most valuable characteristic was undoubtedly his kind and caring nature. A gentle man of incredible patience, empathy, and generosity, Leslie had a positive impact on anybody fortunate enough to spend time with him. Although he has left this world, Leslie leaves behind a flawless example of what it means to be a loving husband, father, son and friend. When a great man is taken before his time, those he affected are inspired to try ever more to be like him. In this regard, Les' influence becomes even stronger and the good he brought to the world will never be lost, it will only grow. The world has lost an absolute gem of a human being. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

I am so very sorry to hear this news. I had not had contact with Les for many years but in the late 70s, I was lucky enough to share many adventures with Les. My sincere condolences to the family he has left behind.

More or Les'... I have the fondest memories of Les always getting a chuckle out of this saying and I think of him every time I hear it. If the world could be a little more 'Les', it would be a kinder, gentler, happier and more peaceful place to be...
His gentle soul, genuine kindness and generosity and his sincere love for his family, friends and pets won't be forgotten.
Theodora, Justin, Aleks, you and your loved ones are in my heart, my thoughts and my prayers. My deepest condolences to each of you.
Much love.
