So sorry to hear of Mr. Mcfarland's passing. I'm just one of his many students. I always thought he was such a nice man. I did get teased a bit though, because we had the same last name. I didn't mind though.

Dear Polly,
When I was in Regina giving a few treasures to the School Board Archives from my Scott Collegiate days, Evelyn (Knox) Rogers told me of the obituary. It came as quite a shock, even tho I knew that Lu hadn't been well.
I will write more later, as I have just returned to Victoria from Waskesiu, and am still unpacking.
Most sincerely, and with sympathy to you and your family.

The McFarland Family:
I was saddened to hear of your great loss in Saturday's Leader Post.

My families association with the McFarland family goes back many years through Lakeview United Church in Regina. I didn't have Mr. McFarland as a teacher at Sheldon Williams Collegiate, but my Mother arranged for him to tudor me in Grade Eleven Geometry.

In such an easy manner, he made me understand what I couldn't grasp from other teachers. He was so helpful and interested in all of his students,
always giving generously of his time and expertise.

May your many memories bring you comfort. With sympathy and caring to all of your family.

Uncle Lew was my great uncle who I didn't have the pleasure of knowing very well. However, growing up in Saskatoon, I do remember trips to Regina to swim in their pool with my brother (James) and sister (Jennifer). Growing up I often heard stories from my Grandpa Reg talk often of his younger brother (Uncle Lew). My dad (Byron McFarland)also speaks highly of both Uncle Lew and Aunt Polly saying how loving and supportive they both were of my sister Jenn as well as my mom Kim during their time in Regina. I am thinking of my distant family today, and my love, hopes and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

Dear Polly, Rick and Jill -- It is sad to hear of Lew's passing but it also brings back lots of memories of someone who contributed so much to his community, Regina's students and family and friends. It was great to know him and I am so glad we all shared so many good years together. Take care and all the best.
