When Tai’s junior year was over, Lex came down to see his son and to meet us for dinner on May 2nd, 2009. It was our privilege to get to know Lex even in just a very short time, we felt like we had been friends for a long time. Lex will forever be remembered in our hearts.
Our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Valerie, Tai and the rest of the Reynolds family.

It was with great shock and deep sadness that we learned the news of Lex's passing. In comparison to others we may have only known Lex a short time but the impact he has had on our family has been immense. It was an honour to have known Lex and he will be missed. Our prayers are with his family.

I have long held a deep respect and admiration for Lex, even when there were times he was driving me crazy when I worked as a social worker, he held us accountable for the children he worked for and I admired that about him. Lex was a tireless and passionate advocate for children and many children have benefitted from his advocacy over the years. It is a tremendous loss of a wonderful man to the community, children and families and to his own family. I will miss him and it was an honour to know him.

I had the privilege of not only having Lex as a colleague, but also as a friend. I had the benefit of his expertise, he encouraged me to advocate for change and to take on difficult cases and issues, he listened to me when I needed to vent, he brainstormed with me about the best strategies to utilize, we occasionally laughed together and he hugged me when things were emotionally difficult.
When cases were tough, as they often were, Lex stood there firmly advocating for his clients, children and families while also supporting his colleagues by sharing his expertise and by recognizing the emotional toll that difficult cases involving children can take on all those involved. Lex provided an example of someone who could work in the legal system, in trying circumstances, with compassion, treating people with respect, and recognizing cultural differences while advocating for change in the legal system and the structures and agencies that that deal with children and families. Everyone always recognized that his heart was in the right place even when they might disagree with his position or his strategy.
Lex was devoted to his own family. His love for his wife Val and son Tai was clearly evident. Having a loving and supportive family helped Lex be able to do his advocacy work. Tai was a constant source of joy and bragging material for Lex. It was as important for Lex to be a good partner and parent as it was to encourage that choice in others. My thoughts and prayers are with Val and Tai as they move through this difficult transition.

I haven't seen Lex since he has grown up but always kept in touch through his Mom, Barb. I was shocked to read about his death at such a young age. I remember when he was born and he was such a happy baby and very active child. His Dad, Barry worked for my Dad in Kamloops. Our thoughts are with his Mom, Barbara, his siblings and wife and family.

I had the privilege of teaching Lex at UVic Law and encountered him many times after he graduated. In addition to being a wonderful student, he was a thoughtful, humorous and compassionate man who regarded law as an instrument for helping others. His subsequent practice on behalf of families with children was a reflection of this commitment, and I frequently have been told by members of the Victoria bar how capable, considerate and respected he was as a lawyer. Lex will be sorely missed by many, but my heart goes out especially to his family at this sad and difficult time.

I had the pleasure of attending UVic Law School at the same time as Lex. He stood out as someone with depth, compassion, and deeply held principles. He was a respected member of the local bar. His chosen area of practice was one which required strength, commitment and compassion, all of which he had in spades. My condolences to his family.

Lex was a friend and colleague for over twenty years. His contributions to the early work of the Child and Youth Care Association of BC demonstrated the commitment that he brought to his ongoing advocacy work throughout his career. His jovial sense of humor and the quality of his friendship will be sorely missed by my family, and the broader child and youth care family he was a part of. Our condolences to Val, Tai and the family. Namaste - Robert R. Martin, Fran Pardee and family

His advocacy for families with children and in essence, advocacy for the vulnerable children in the system, will be greatly missed. No, not greatly ... but immensely missed, by the chosen parents, their children within the system and his peers within his discipline and of course his family. Heartfelt prayers to his entire family during your difficult journey ahead. God Bless.
