Lloyd FRIEDRICK Obituary

Our father, Lloyd Allan Friedrick, passed away peacefully in Victoria, B.C., on January 3, 2025.

Lloyd was predeceased in 2023 by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Irene Friedrick (nee Johnston). He is survived by his son Bradley Allan Friedrick and Brad's partner Jennifer (Jenny) Smillie, his daughter Lynn Dee Friedrick, and her husband Arnold John Stephens. He also leaves behind Brad's family, Kyle Passamare and Jocelyn Herbers and their children; Lynn and Arnie's family, Mike and Marie-Josée Stephens and their children, and Mark Stephens and Maggie McCarron and their children; his niece Donalda McCormick, his nephews Dwayne Friedrick and Dwight Friedrick, and their families. Lloyd will be remembered by his special extended family in Germany and by scores of other family members and friends in Canada and around the world.

Lloyd was born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan, in 1932. After graduating from high school in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, he went on to a career in sales, primarily in automotive supply. He started his own automotive parts warehouse business in the 1970s, and operated it until his retirement. He was also a consultant in his retirement years, providing advice to small business clients in B.C., and on one memorable assignment, in Panama.

LLoyd and Dorothy married in 1954, lived in Edmonton, Alberta, for many years, and retired to Victoria in 1988. Their travels took them to Great Britain, the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and they also spent numerous winters in Hawaii where they made many lifelong friends.

Lloyd was a man of many interests and talents, including books, art, genealogy, woodworking, and writing. He had an intellectual curiosity about the world, an analytic mind, and a passion for discussing events. He was known for his open mind and fair consideration of all viewpoints. He loved people and throughout life made numerous friends but never an enemy. We will miss his kind and gentle nature, his willingness to help anyone he met, his charm, laughter, and storytelling.

Brad and Lynn are especially grateful to Lloyd and Dorothy's many neighbours at Laurel Point in Victoria, for their fellowship and support over the years. We will gather with them at Laurel Point for remembrance and a toast to Lloyd on Thursday, January 9th, 2025.

We will keep his memory in our hearts forever.

We send our deep condolences to your family. When we moved to Laurel Point in 2020, Lloyd was an outgoing and friendly neighbour who welcomed us and regaled us with many stories about the community. Lloyd shared our love of literature and grammar, and we admired how he always stayed active, walking up and down the hallway to keep fit. If we needed to know anything about our building, we could count on Lloyd! We will miss him and are so glad to have known him. Steven and Kelly Saunders.

My heartfelt sympathy. Lloyd will be sadly missed, so enjoyed conversing with him over the past 20 years. He was always cheerful and I loved to see him greet me at his door with his apron on in the throws of preparing his lunch when I delivered some home baked cookies. One of many times we met he was comfortable to ask for advice such as how to plant and care for the flowers on his balcony. Lloyd was special in every way.

Your parents are held in affectionate memory by many from First-Metropolitan United Church, for their many years of membership and shared faith. I have a blessed memory of sharing tea with them in their lovely home. Our gratitude to the Holy One for the blessings of family and hope of Blessed Reunion.
