Luke Humber Obituary

Humber, Luke Harold

Born Dec. 22, 1956 At Resthaven Hospital, Luke passed away peacefully with family by his side, on October 19th, 2015.

Predeceased by his father Harold and mother Joyce, Luke is survived by his lifetime companion Michelle Humber, daughters Wendy Jestico, Penny Smith (Kevin) Ashley Humber, son Ryan Humber, his three granddaughters Angela, Sophia and Addison and his many friends.

Anyone who knew Luke will remember that he walked everywhere, he said he did this as much for his health as for safety on the streets.

Luke loved his sports! He passionately supported his favorite teams.

One of his great loves was baseball and he played softball as a young man. He was instrumental in the creation and development of the Sidney Slow Pitch Team.

Many will also remember, he was an excellent bowler, in both the Sidney Community and also with the Sidney ANAF Unit #302 and he had the trophies to prove it.

Luke started working as a barman at the Sidney ANAF Unit #302 in 1981. He loved the Club and its members. He worked long and hard for the service men and women who were Active Members and for the civilian Affiliate Members. Many became dear friends and Luke was not adverse to sharing stories and tipping back a few Blues with his friends. No job was too small or menial for him at the Club and over the years he put in thousands of hours of volunteer time to ensure the success of his beloved Club. On June 30th, 2014 after 33 years, Luke finished his service to the Club as Manager of the Sidney ANAF Unit #302.

The most important things in life for Luke were family and friends. He enjoyed life! And would want us not to mourn but to remember the good times, smile, then, go on.

The family would like to thank the caring staff on the Cardiac Care Unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for Luke's treatment while he was a patient there.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 24th at Sidney Army, Navy and Air Force Unit #302, at 9831 4th Street, Sidney.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ANAF Unit #302 Ladies Auxiliary.

I played for the Original Duffy's team, when it was a mixed slow-pitched team. Luke picked me to play back catcher as we were drinking pitcher's of draft beer at the Army & Navy and that was the day I became friends with Luke and the funtimes began becoming friends with Luke as the Manager and I also became friends with everyone out in Sidney lol Some of the best times of my life all because of Luke, I will always have fond memories of Luke and Sidney!!! I'm still very sorry for your loss Michelle and families, rest in peace Luke!!!

I fondly remember Luke spending a great deal of time at my Grandparents house during his childhood. He was always considered a dear member of our family. Loved by all of us. But as with most families the winds seem to separate us. We are all very saddened by his passing. He truly had a heart made out of gold or whatever you personally hold dear. Love and condolences, the Ralph family.

Sorry to hear of Luke's passing as we were friends in our teens and had lots of good times together. Over the years we grew apart but I have lots of great memories of Luke. We went to school together, spent summer days shrimping and fishing at Beacon Wharf and rode our bikes to Ganges to fish perch off the dock. We kept pigeons and we partied many times together at Sidney Spit, SIR and Mac's house on 3rd street, to name a few. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP old buddy!
