Lyle COULTER Obituary
Sadly our dad passed away peacefully in the early hours of July 8th, 2025 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. He was 92. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Marge, his brothers Bruce (June), Grant and his sister Marion (Ross). He is survived by his son Bob (Judy), daughter Jodi (Terry) and his three granddaughters who he adored, Lauren (Jon), Alycia (Spencer) and Rebecca (Adam). He passed away just days after his first great-grandchild was born, a boy Callum. Sadly they never got the chance to meet. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews from all across Canada.
Dad was raised on a farm in Wheatley, Southern Ontario and worked briefly at the Ford Motor Company in Windsor before joining the RCAF at 18. He flew F86 Sabres and CF104 Starfighters in Europe, T-33's, the DHC5 Buffalo with the UN Emergency Force in Egypt and retired on the DHC6 Twin Otter in Edmonton before moving on to Transport Canada. He met our mom at a dance when he was stationed in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and together they lived across Canada and in Europe. They called St Albert, Alberta home for 38 years before moving to Sidney to their condo overlooking the marina, a spot they both loved. Dad never told us why he was called "Jug".
Dad was a great father and family man, an avid volunteer who had a keen interest in sports. He grew up playing fastball and played softball and golf well into his golden years. He always enjoyed talking airplanes and aviation and volunteered at both the Alberta Aviation Museum in Edmonton and was a tour guide at the BC Aviation Museum in Sidney.
At Dad's request there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers we ask that you make a donation to either the Victoria Hospitals Foundation or the BC Aviation Museum.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and healthcare staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital, 7th floor S, for their exceptional care, attention and support as our dad made this journey. He will certainly be missed.
