BAIRD, Margaret Ellen April 10, 1920 - May 24, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our wonderful mother on Wednesday, the 24th of May. Margaret was born on the 10th of April, 1920 in Edmonton, Alberta to George and Ellen Braithwaite. She was raised on a homestead at Lake Isle, Fallis 55 miles west of Edmonton. There she grew up with her three brothers travelling to school on horseback and helping her beloved mother and best friend cook and chore for the household. She came to the coast by train with her mother and brothers in 1940. Work took the family to a logging camp at Port Renfrew where Margaret and her mother were camp cooks making hearty meals for the men. Margaret met Roland during these years in Renfrew. She moved to Duncan in 1944 but still saw Roland quite a bit! They married in 1949. Two sons followed George and Maurice. The Fisher Road farm in Cobble Hill was purchased in November 1952 and the young family moved there with Margaret's parents George and Ellen Braithwaite. Here over the years she raised her family, produced fabulous meals, grew a magnificent garden and lived in the old farm house into her 96th year. She was active in the Community being a member of the Farmers Institute, St. John's Anglican Church and was the driving force of the Cobble Hill Womens' Institute for the last four decades. She will be dearly missed by George (Gladys), Maurice (Laura), Brian, Kevin, Stephen, Shaun, Catherine and their families, sister-in-laws Birnie Braithwaite and Elsie Braithwaite. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Cairnsmore Place. A special thank you to Dr. Grymaloski and to the Cowichan District Hospital 2nd floor nurses for their compassionate care of our Mom and the family support. A service will be held in St. John's Anglican Church, 3295 Cobble Hill Rd. on Sunday, June 4th at 2 p.m. Online condolences may be made at
