Margaret DEFRANE Obituary

We sadly announce the passing of Margaret Nell DeFrane (Nee Stubbs) on December 3, 2021.
Margaret was born on December 8, 1936 in Didsbury, Alberta to Tressa (Patricia) and William (Bill) Stubbs. She was the fifth of six children, and first of two girls.
The family moved to Victoria in 1940, following Margaret's grandparents Thomas and Nell Stubbs, who had been living in Victoria (originally from Lethbridge) for some time.
Schooling was Marigold, Brentwood, Tillicum and then Mount View High.
She had many jobs, and never applied for a job she did not get (very personable). Margaret always stayed home with her boys when they were not in school, or worked evenings when Dad was home. Her work outside the home included, Provincial Government, Princess Mary Restaurant, McNutts Store, dressing turkeys at Christmas, serving meals to Military Officers at the Ward Room at Esquimalt, proprietor of Snack Counter at Playland Curling Club, Sears retail for 10 years, Lumber Store cashier, Royal Roads Military Collage, 2 years at Ship Repair in Esquimalt. Her last 18 years of working were at Defence Research Establishment Pacific (DREP). Margaret retired in 1995 when the federal government closed DREP.
Margaret and her family spent 42 years at a summer cottage, built by the family on Kemp Lake (sold in 2010)
Margaret is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Billy, Bobby, Tom, her sister Patty, and three partners, Ray DeFrane (Dad), Keith Thomas (Bud), and Woody Godlien.
Margaret treated everyone she met like she had known them for years and called many of them "Sugar Plum" as she was terrible with names. She leaves behind three sons, Dave, Randy and Dan and their wonderful partners, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Dave, his wife, nieces, nephews and cousins all whom she adored.
Cause of death was due to severe calcification of her heart valve. Her ashes are interred at Royal Oak Burial Park.
Margaret will be truly missed by many.

Our condolences to the family.
Marg was a loyal client who used our gardening services for over a decade. We had many conversations talking about the times we live in. It's strange to not hear her say, "Well hello Sugar Plum". Rest in Peace
