Diane Kettner Obituary

Diane Kettner passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025 in Victoria at the age of 88. Daughter of Kathleen Macdonald and John Tiencken, she married David Kettner in 1961 in Toronto where she raised her three children; Miles (Melissa), Jane, and Paul (Anna). She was "Garney" to her six fabulous grandkids; Ben, Samantha, Jacob, Tyya and Hannah, whom she adored from afar, having moved to BC in 1995.
Diane was a force in the world of design and spent most of her working years creating beautiful spaces for clients, friends and family. A lover of opera, orchids and gin martinis, she was the epitome of style. Mom was a voracious reader but utterly intimidated by technology - she never owned a cell phone nor could she navigate a TV menu. She adored her waterfront home at Breakwater in Sidney where she made lifelong friends and lived for over 20 years before deciding it was time for her next move. She enjoyed meeting new friends at Tapestry Victoria Harbour over the last two years and continued to be an adventurous, kind, independent person until her very last day.
Thanks to the remarkable staff at Victoria General Hospital. A private family gathering will take place. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Diane's memory may consider the Pacific Opera Company.

Shortly after Diane purchased her unit (adjacent to our unit #5) in 1998, it didn't take long before she started volunteering with Council. Diane had a tremendous influence at Breakwater, and was instrumental in guiding us through many significant improvements.
As a professional Interior Designer, she also helped many owners with updating and renovating their units.
On behalf of the Council and the Breakwater family, our condolences go to her children Myles, Paul and Jane ... and to her extended family.
We missed her when she moved away from Breakwater in 2023, and its even harder to believe that she's now passed away.

Diane was a caring neighbour to my parents who lived in #3 at the Breakwater and my husband and I have fond memories of Diane embracing her outdoor seaside patio in even cool weather, bundled up reading her paper. A class act.
