Margery Emms Obituary

EMMS, Margery G. Passed away peacefully on October 09, 2005 at the Lodge at Broadmead. Margery was predeceased by her husband Clyde in 1986. She is survived by daughter Lyne England (Joe) of Victoria and son Kenneth Emms (Malinda) of Sidney, grandchildren Kelly Smith (Larry), Jamie Emms and Jake Emms, great grand children Matthew, Aliya and Myrissa. Margery was born in Kingston on Thames, England and met husband Clyde, a Canadian serviceman in London during WW2. She came to Canada with her children as a War Bride on the Mauritania. They traveled to many Forces Bases across Canada as well as in Europe after the war. Upon Clyde's retirement, they settled in Victoria. Margery was trained as a Beautician and managed many Beauty Shops. Later in Victoria, she managed the Sub" cafeteria at UVIC for a number of years then worked in the Library until her retirement. She was much involved with the Victorian Days Celebrations and took great delight in dressing for the occasions in both original costumes and those which she designed and sewed herself. Until recent years she continued with the Heritage Society, a group of ladies who dress in period" costumes and travel to various facilities in Victoria, putting on Fashion Shows" and entertainment for the residents. She will be remembered in her costumes and doing her routine as The Tippling Maid". An avid gardener and sun lover, she seemed to have a perpetual suntan. She loved Cruising at sea and in later years took many cruises to sun drenched beaches around the world. Her plants were her friends and she seemingly could coax a dry twig to grow and flourish in to a beautiful plant. She was the same with small animals and strays. She also found unique ways to do special things for others to brighten their days. Occasions for family get-togethers always found her creating delicious meals for the entire family. Her baking creations were always enough in quantity for everyone to take home a Goody-Basket". Margy" or Nan-Nan as she was known by all of the children was dearly loved, will be greatly missed and always remembered with love. The family wishes to extend thanks to all of the folks at the Kensington who made her stay there so wonderful for several years prior to hospitalization. Thanks also to her friends at Saanich Peninsula Hospital especially Helen, Bev, Hannah, Cecily and Jean who sat at the dining room table she shared and to the staff on Units 1 and 2. Thanks also to the staff at Mt. Newton who made each Tuesday a special day for Margery. Most recently Margery lived at The Lodge at Broadmead and was often heard telling others how very much she enjoyed being there and participating in a wide variety of activities. Sincere thanks to the staff on B2 who cared for Margery and who were so supportive to the family both during her stay and throughout the final steps of her journey. Warm heartfelt thanks goes to her companions Linda, Helen, Margaret, and Joyce, who enabled her to enjoy friendship, conversation and different adventures. Special thanks to Dr. D. Morton and Dr. Z. Hurwitz for their attentive care. A memorial service with reception will be held at 4725 Falaise Dr. Victoria, BC on Friday Oct. 14, 2005 at 10:00 AM. Flowers or a donation to your favorite charity would be appreciated. 160505

Kelly i never had the pleasure of meeing your grandmother but i can surely say this from meeting you. From meeting you and loving you i can tell your grandmother would have been sweet like you. After all we do get alot of character from our grandmothers through our moms. I am sure there is a lot of her in you today ---as there will be in the future hold her dear to your heart sweetie and with you she will always be. The days you feel lost and sad just quiet yourself and feel the breeze quietly flow over your cheek and the sunshine heating your body and that my dear will be your grandmother sweetly reminding you she is there with a touching kiss and a gentle hug love you sis forever and when we have the pleasure to meet in the beautiful place above i would be honoured to meet your grandmother. I would love to thank her for her part in making a great sister with character and loads of love the qualities i am sure she taught you in your childhood years. Never forget your childhood with your family they are character building years.

if you need me you know where i am.
