Marie McRae Obituary
Marie passed away peacefully at her home on January 16, 2016 at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, James Sr., and eldest son, James Jr. Marie was born in Vancouver, the youngest of six children born to Mary and George Coulson. In 1942 her brother introduced her to a young staff sergeant friend named Jim McRae. They were married a year later and settled in Victoria after the War where they raised their three children; James, Gordon and Don. As was the case with many of her generation, Marie's career was the raising of her children, which by all accounts she was very skilled. In 1971 she began a second career as a volunteer with the Royal Jubilee Hospital, which she continued for 35 years. Throughout this time, Marie and Jim were active members of the Camosun Gyro Club where they forged many deep and lasting friendships throughout the community.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her surviving sons, Gordon (Louise) of Coquitlam and Don (Susan) of North Saanich and daughter-in-law Carolyn of Sidney; grandchildren Jamie, Ryan, Chad, Shaun, Lindsay and Kaetlynd; great grandchildren Natasha, James, Cameron, Griffin, Caleb and London; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Dr. Karen Klingenberg, Leann and Ray Miles, and the many home support individuals that made it possible for Marie to have her wish of living out her life in her home close to friends and family.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
