Marilyn Sheilds Obituary

SHEILDS, Marilyn Marie It is with great sadness that Darryl and Carol announce the passing of their beloved daughter, Marilyn Marie Sheilds on January 16, 2008. Marilyn died peacefully in her sleep at home due to complications of her life long cardiac condition. Marilyn was born on September 25, 1970 in Victoria, BC, the fourth generation of the pioneer James Sheilds family (1864) and the fifth generation of the pioneer William Bell Charters family (1862) of Sooke, BC. Marilyn was predeceased by her beloved grandfathers William J. Sheilds (1998) and Patrick G. Strachan (1996). Besides her grieving parents, Marilyn is survived by her adored grandmothers, Mrs. Florence L. Sheilds and Mrs. Jean R. Strachan, aunt Mrs. Lorraine (Tom) Jarvie all of Victoria, BC, aunt Mrs. Beverly Dickie, Kelowna, BC, uncles Michael (Diane) Strachan of Abbotsford, B.C. and Robert (Linda) Strachan of Port Coquitlam. B.C. and her special Tio Uncle" and his family, Dr. Alejandro Saquimox of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Central America, as well as many cousins throughout BC and the USA. We would like to thank all those who helped Marilyn achieve her potential from her early childhood beginning at G. F. Pearkes Clinic, Victor School, Richmond School, Oak Bay High and Victoria Vocational College. Grateful thanks to all those medical personnel who attended to her many medical needs especially Dr. John L. Campbell, the late Dr. Basil C. Boulton, and most recently Dr. Stephen Starr. Special thanks to BC Ambulance Service, both Victoria and Esquimalt firefighters and police for their compassionate assistance. Private family service. Cremation entrusted to Hatley Memorial Gardens. As much as Marilyn loved flowers, please consider donations to the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation, 107 1001 Cloverdale Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8X 4C9 or Victor School, 2260 Victor Street, Victoria, BC, V8R 4C5, or an organization that assists mentally or physically challenged children would be greatly appreciated. Budded on Earth to flower in Heaven. Rest in peace Babe `til we meet again. 438311

Dear Darryl and Carol,

We are deeply sorry for the loss of your dear Marilyn. It was always a delight to see you all and it was obvious how much Marilyn reflected back all the love she was given by you both. Marilyn's sense of humor and enjoyment of life bloomed because of your commitment to her. We know you miss her terribly and wish there was something we could do to lessen the pain of her loss, knowing full well there isn't. Please be comforted in the knowledge that your lives together affected so many for good, an example of real people being real family.

You are in our thoughts-

Aunt Elaine, Laine and Mary Kate

Dear Marilyn,
I so cherished your presence, and i cant wait to see you in heaven. Until then i find great comfort in knowing your looking down on me, i feel as if i gained a guardian angel.
I will miss your smile, and your appreciation for everything and every one around you.
I am so thankful for the last visit we had with you at Christmas, you came over to grandmas and we sat and played with my laptop. I still have the goofy pictures and videos on here and im watching them as i write this.
You taught me so much about life...
You taught me that smiles are contagious and you should wear one wherever you go.
You taught me that you should be grateful for what you have and find happiness in even the smallest of things.
Thank you for being such an amazing person and beautiful soul that will live on forever in my heart.
i love you Marilyn.

Marilyn,

Although I only had the privilege of being in your presence on a few occasions, I will always remember you being happy, content, and confidently knowing that you were loved so very much. It has been rare for me to ever hear your name without seeing a smile follow on that person's face. You were courageous and inspirational, and your memory will surely live with everyone who encountered you forever. I will miss your smile.

Darryl and Carol,

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't think Marilyn could have ever had better parents. Both of you are so very admirable and an inspiration to everyone. It was very obvious that Marilyn had so much love and joy in her life. She will be forever missed.

Love,

Marilyn,
You touched my life like no one else has or ever will. You were my closest cousin, and I knew I could always count on having nothing but a smile on my face when I was in your presence. You were an inspiration for me...I am who I am because of your influence. You proved to me at a very young age that life is to short to worry about the small things. There are so many memories that involve you,one of my favorites was at our wedding this past summer, when you caught the flowers and at the BBQ at our house (you were so happy to be around all of the people you loved and who loved you)...Another one of my favorites was less than a month ago when we were sitting on the couch practicing sign language together! You always amazed me with your drive and will to live such a happy life. I will forever hold you in my heart...and will be waiting for a giant hug when we meet again in Heaven. I love you Marilyn!

Auntie Carol and Uncle Darryl,
I am so sorry that you have lost the most precious part of your life. Please know how much she was loved and will be missed. I admire you guys more than words can even begin to describe. You gave her the most perfect life, and allowed her to live in such peace and harmony. I am always here for you guys, if you ever need anything please please please do not hesitate. I love you both and thank you for giving me the opportunity to create the lasting memories that I did with Marilyn

Love always and forever,
Jenna

Marilyn, you brought so much joy and love to your parents, family and friends. You taught them to love, laugh and be patient. My family saw you many times over the years at your family gatherings, Christmas, ball games, weddings etc. Our most memorable event was in Puyallup last July for Jenna and CJ's wedding. You were in 7th heaven all weekend but especially when you caught the bridal bouquet. "Way to go Marilyn!". You did enjoy that memorable weekend.

Carol & Darryl our thoughts are with you always.....

Marilyn:
Your love of family and togetherness is what always stood out with me. You had such a true dislike of conflict and wanted so much for people to get along and live in peace. Despite your heart ailments your "heart" was bigger than most. The world could learn a lot from you. You will be so greatly missed.

Carol and Darryl:
Our sincere condolences. The admiration for the life and love you gave Marilyn can not be expressed in words.

We met only once, but we only needed one meeting to know how special and loved Marilyn was. The smile on her face when she caught Jenna's bouquet at the wedding was priceless! There is no cure for the pain that is felt when parents lose a child, for that I am sorry. I do hope that in time you will enjoy ALL of the wonderful memories you have of your sweet Marilyn. I know she knows how much she was loved. Don and Cheryl talk often about the love that Marilyn's family shared for her and all the joy and all the memories they have.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
