Marlene Hartley Obituary

HARTLEY, Marlene Rose
May 09, 1933 - January 03, 2026
It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our mum, on January 3rd, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by love.

Her tenacious spirit and thoughtful nature will live on in the hearts and memories of all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Dennis in 2022, she is survived by her three children, Brett (Stasia), Shawn (Jennetta) Alanna (David), four loving grandchildren and their partners, and three great grandchildren.

Marlene was a vibrant member of her community. She was a lifelong member and past president of the UCW (United Church Women) and an honorary member of the Capital City Yacht Club among many other organizations that she volunteered for during her lifetime.

A special thank you to Dr. Paul Kachan for his many years of compassionate care and to the staff of the palliative care unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their kindness and assistance during the past month.

A celebration of life is planned for April 11 at 2pm at Capital City Yacht Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Healthcare Foundation in her memory.

The Spooner family sends our deepest sympathy for your loss. Marlene was king. Vivacious & full of Joy. I will never forget the times we spent together When I married Lawrie Spooner I met Marlene & Denis. Marlene was close to Bob & Marie and often visited. The families were very closely linked in a long history. I believe Nana Ruby & Marlene´s mom were also close friends.
Very sorry for your loss. We will be attending Marlene´s memorial service. Thank you for a creating a time for us to gather in a time of remembrance of a wonderful friend. Sending Love & Light, Jewel Spooner
