FERNIE, Mary On September 15, 2005, Miss Mary Fernie sadly passed away at Oak Bay Lodge, Victoria, after a long life. She was the loving daughter of the late Mary Isabel Fernie (nee Lyle) of Kamloops and Victoria (Metchosin) and the late Inspector William Lewis Fernie (BC Police) of Kamloops, oldest sister of William Vacy of Kamloops, deceased,and Eva Daphne of Victoria, deceased. Born in Kamloops October 5, 1907, Mary was raised and educated in Kamloops, attending St. Ann's in Kamloops and Victoria. She was a graduate of the Royal Inland Hospital of Nursing (1930); she practised her profession in Williams Lake, Kamloops, Lytton, New Westminster and Victoria. She was an avid sportswoman and horse woman. She excelled at tennis, badminton, riding and polo. Mary took up residence in Metchosin in 1945 and became partners in the family farm operation and the acclaimed Fernie Farm Teas. She was a member of the B.C. Goat Breeders' Association, and a long time contributor to the Luxton and Saanich fairs. Mary is survived by her cousins Mrs Irene Laundy, Victoria and Miss Greta Fernie, Wellington, New Zealand. Special recognition goes to the Oak Bay Lodge for their loving care over the years. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary of the Virgin Heritage Anglican Church, 4354 Metchosin Road, Victoria, B.C., on September 30, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers donations to the B.C. Lung Association would be appreciated. 152325
